JCC How to explain memes to people who don't interact with society

Can someone tell me how to explain the purpose and why it's important to know what memes are? Someone very close to me has never seen lolcats, trollface, dolan, numa, etc. etc. And they legit aren't even trolling me with this. I tried to explain and failed beyond "it's culturally important and you're missing out on lots of references that are going over your head"

Internet memes should only exist on the internet. So, unless you're talking about your internet boyfriend who lives in Canada, it shouldn't be important.

Just direct them to know your meme. If they care about you they will dedicate the time to learn about things that are important to you.
