Someone may have already said this, but...

Obviously Padme ALREADY loved Anakin when he made his confession to her on Tatooine. Falling in love doesn't have to take a certain amount of time, and it doesn't have to happen for clear and concrete reasons. She fell "truly, deeply, yadda yadda" in love with him on Naboo. (or perhaps even before that, who knows? Is SW "too realistic" for Love at First Sight, which is something that actually happens in the real world anyway?!) So, when he made his confession on Tatooine, you want her to just suddenly stop loving him out of utter self-righteous indignation. No thanks.

Nice suggestions, Binary_Sunset. But you're not even gonna see Lucas making those corrections in your dream, so don't waste your time :)

By not having Padme know about Anakin's mass murder, it removes a serious impediment to the believability of their marriage at the end of the movie.

Hey, if "night stalker" Richard Ramirez can get married in prison, then why not Anakin? ;)

Yeah but I don't think Padme's apartment on Coruscant was in a trailer park......

Your suggestions might work, though I had no problem with Anakin telling Padme about killing the Tuskens. I would think that she would be the only person that he would feel close enough to that he would share that information with her. However, I can see the benefits of having Owen know about it, too. I'm wondering how Owen is going to come to his opinion of Anakin that he eventually has.

    Here's another analogy:

If Hitler, Saddam Hussein or Osama Bin Laden can have a wife (or MANY wives...as with the case with the latter [face_plain] ), then why not Anakin?

    Interesting analogy, import.

So, you think Anakin is basically Osama Bin Laden? That says a lot for Padme, too...

Genocide and jihad are very different from revenge for your mother's murder.

If you tried doing some research on foriegn cultures and the position of women in said cultures, that question would answer itself.

Unless I missed the fact that the people you mentioned were married to leaders of their countries at the time.

Padme was a friggen senator who had an indeterminate number of love and or relationships sometime in the past. She fell for a psycho murderer stalker who whined about being treated like a child every 5 seconds. That doesn't happen - unless the woman is desperate and/or fat and/or unattractive.

((Genocide and jihad are very different from revenge for your mother's murder. ))

If my girlfriend's mother was killed by a dog, and it was caught by the pound, and she went to the pound and chopped up all of the dogs there, I would not date her anymore.

I wouldn't go to her the next day and say, "I truly, deeply, love you." I would probably move the next day, since she had serious emotional issues and she may go psycho on me.

That's how normal people think. Even if you take the "humanity" away from the Tuskens, it's a psychotic act and anyone halfway normal, not to mention a pacifist senator chick who knew the guy for less than a week, would steer clear of the guy.

Hi, everyone; as requested, please allow me to repost the following here (pasted from the "Alternate Love Story" thread...)

    1: Their First Meeting

INT. PADME'S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - DAY

OBI-WAN and ANAKIN step out of the elevator side by side. PADME, JAR JAR, and CAPTAIN TYPHO stand ready to greet them. The enthusiastic Gungan is the first to step forward.

    JAR JAR
Oh, maxi bombad Jedi! (to Padme) Yousa safe assura now!

    OBI-WAN
    Jar Jar.

    PADME
    Welcome, Master Kenobi.

    OBI-WAN
Senator. May I present my padewan learner--

Anakin abruptly moves in front of him, extending his hand.

    ANAKIN
Padme. (Smiles) You're still an angel.

    PADME
    ...Ani?

They shake hands, Anakin grinning a bit too widely. Obi-Wan regards them for a moment, then clears his throat, looking straight in Anakin's direction.

    OBI-WAN
Shall we get down to business?

    2: Padme packs her bags

    INT. PADME'S APARTMENT - BEDROOM - DAY

A frustrated Padme stuffs various articles into a travel bag. Anakin stands behind her.

    PADME
I shouldn't be hiding. Not now.

    ANAKIN
We need to keep you safe.

    PADME
Who's safe when the Act gets passed and armed troops show up on every street?

    ANAKIN
You won't be gone long. Obi-Wan'll find the assassin. He's... he's a little stuffy, but... well, you won't find a better Jedi.

    PADME
Huh. Palpatine would almost say the same of you.

    ANAKIN
    Really?

    3: Travel as Refugees

    INT. SPACE CRUISER - BAR

ALIENS of all kinds drink away their misery, under the watchful eye of a DROID BARTENDER. A disguised Anakin and Padme sit across from each other at a low table.

    PADME
...And then who walks in but Count Dooku himself, and he tells us, "I no longer see a Senate. I see marketplace, a place to buy power and privelidge, and if any of you see the madness I perceive, then come with me and--"

    ANAKIN
You have quite an interest in politics... for a commoner.

Padme catches herself, and puts on an embarassed smile.

    PADME
    Sorry. It's who I am.

    ANAKIN
    I know what you mean.

An ALIEN THUG drops into the chair between them. Ignoring Anakin entirely, he addresses Padme in a deep and threatening voice.

    THUG
Excuse me. You must be new around here. Why don't you come with me and I'll give you the tour?

    PADME
    Not just now, thank you.

    THUG
    It'll only take a minute.

    ANAKIN
    We'll pass. But thanks.

The young Jedi's hand drifts toward his saber, then pulls away from it. Suddenly, the thug takes Padme by the wrist.

    THUG
    I insist.

    ANAKIN
    Get off!

Rising to his feet, the Jedi seizes the alien and delivers an open-handed blow to his chest. The alien flies back into the wall and collapses.

All eyes turn toward Padme and her guardian.

    ANAKIN
    We were just leaving.

Anakin escorts Padme out the door.

    ANAKIN
    I'm sorry.

    PADME
    Don't be.

4: Maybe I Do Like Sand After All

EXT. LAKE RETREAT - DECK - DAY

Padme and Anakin lean on a balcony rail overlooking the water. As the Senator looks out with a concerned sigh, Anakin weighs his options, then makes his move.

    ANAKIN
    You're tense.

He steps in to rub her shoulders, but she moves, very slightly, and he hesitates.

    PADME
    No thanks.

Anakin decides to go for broke.

    ANAKIN
    I meant what I said.

    PADME
    When?

    ANAKIN
(Chuckles)Ten years ago. About you being the most beautiful creature in the universe.

Padme holds still, her expression unreadable.

    ANAKIN
    I... I'm sorry, I...

    PADME
I remember. You put a lot on the line for us.

    ANAKIN
    For you.

She listens closely, looking him in the eye.

    ANAKIN
I've thought about you. They tell me not to; Jedi aren't supposed to...

He tries to form the word love, but can't quite do it.

    PADME
    (nodding toward the inside)
    I have something for you.

INT. LAKE RETREAT - STUDY - DAY

Padme leads Anakin into the room. He waits in the doorway as she crosses to the other side, taking all the various portraits of Padme in
