Im not talking about the one Outbound Flight Project mission that Palpatine stopped, not completely, but assuming that the mission had been launched before Palpatine was in the Galactic Senate or way in the past in the days of the Old Republic and had the same goals that Jorus C'Baoth and the Jedi Order and colonists had all had, and nobody had been in a position to interfere with the mission and stop it at all.

How would a mission leaving the known GFFA while dropping off colonists to random planets have affected the future? Seems like they actually had some stuff to benefit from, maybe learning how to breach the great Hyperspace Disturbance at the edge of the galaxy (Something that an Interdictor Cruiser using Gravity Well Projectors could probably bypass, using artificial gravity to open a rift or break through the weak points and leave or return again) Also the expedition through The Unknown Regions might have discovered a few stable hyperspace routes and planets there and garnished some scientific knowledge in the process, and a normal Jedi with other Jedi present could probably negotiate passage with the Chiss if they came into contact with them peacefully or explain their mission and gain permission, maybe get the Republic and Chiss into friendly contact in the process.

But if a mission like this had been launched and succeeded then it might change the scope of space travel, more territory could be opened for exploration, the Hyperspace Disturbance at the edge of the galaxy might be able to be breached and ships could then explore outside of the galaxy, not much there but surely some stuff worth exploring, then eventually the Yuuzhan Vong would show up but they were always coming anyway.

And i dont know why Palpatine never gave Grand Admiral Thrawn the original mission and had Thrawn try to accomplish what C'Baoth had wanted to do, Thrawn with Imperial support might have been able to try and succeed, that would pave the way for the Dark Empire that Palpatine wanted, being able to leave the galaxy.

Most likely another mess like the Republic created with O'reen

just that they are now force users and easy fodder for any of those fun cults out there, as well as for the Rakata raiders still hunting those Regions and drawn to planets with a strong force presence, or maybe the Ssi-ruu find them and really have a field day since now that they can perfect super entechment.

The Outbound Flight project was never intended principally as an exploratory effort. It was C'Baoth's personal plan to escape the oncoming darkness he foresaw by fleeing where it could not reach him, ie. outside known galactic boundaries. In hindsight, that was actually one of C'Baoth's better ideas, but in terms of a general colonization strategy it makes no sense at all.

The Star Wars galaxy is not 'full.' It has tons of space, with the unknown systems receding very slowly as scouts map it bit by bit. due to the nature of hyperspace travel, going too far forward at any one time is generally (unless you have Force-aided navigation) a one-way trip. One way trips do not expand society, since knowledge you discover is only helpful if you bring it back home.

Launching an expedition beyond the galaxy would be like the US launching a manned mission to Alpha Centauri. Cool-sounding, but we should probably try going to Mars first.
