    *Flash-forward to ANH*

Ben Kenobi: I have something for you. Your father wanted you to have this when you were older.

Rummages through his things and pulls out a mustache and a long brown beard*

    Luke: What's that?

Ben Kenobi: It's your father's facial hair. He thought it made him look all wise, but he cut it off after he started having nightmares about a Griffin, a Gargoyle, and an old man that looked too much like Gandalf . You can wear it though, I don't think it would give you any nightmares.

Luke proceeds to put on the mustache and beard.

Luke: Oh no! Everything looks like LOTR right now!

Ben Kenobi rips off the beard.

    Luke: Owww...that hurt.

Ben Kenobi: Just be glad I didn't show you the Maul Reynolds picture.

Because that wasn't an established look long before Gandalf? The fact that LOTR was the comparison most people seemed to jump to kind of speaks for itself. Tolkien used archetypes, he didn't establish them.

I would say that TCW-movie don't work with previously established that "younglings should be padawans when 13"- thing- Obi and Ani seems to think Ahsoka looks like a rather young to be Padawan..... anyway i think it's very personal since they are raising through the ranks because of their skills not because of their age..... besides many species age totally differently (like Yoda's species, wookiees or Kel Dor)

I would say normal age when taken to the order is 1-5 years 5-year old is already so attached to his/hers parents it's very risky to take one so old to training- (Ahsoka was taken when she was 3- quite average)

then they train as younglings about ten years and when they are 10-15 they are selected by knights or masters to be their padawan learners- i would say while 13 may be average age of becoming someone's padawan 15 may be the age when all should be padawan learners..... if they aren't they may be sent to service corps like agricorps......(Ahsoka was 14 so she was again average)

then they are padawan learners i would say normally 5-10 years- depending much on both master's teaching and apprentice's learning skills- one like Yoda can probably train one fully to knighthood during 5 years if there is just potential......

then after that jedi is 20-30- when knighted- sometimes it may take even more years if there is problems....I think Obi-Wan had problems because of Qui-Gon as his teacher- we can see in TPM how Obi-Wan don't always know whether to obey Yoda or Qui-Gon since many times their teachings conflict........still he was 25 when knighted pretty normal I think- Anakin was bit young but there may've been younger.....

and one becomes master usually after training one padawan so it means at least 25(in extreme cases if knighted when 20 and then training padawan in 5 years)usually 30-40 years old- Shaak Ti doesn't look much older than 30 or so
(not even to mention TFU[face_laugh] ) if togruta age humanlike way of course, Luminara, Adi Gallia all look under 40 (there is OOU-reasons of course:p) And Obi-Wan was 35 or 36- pretty average- Anakin would've been maybe the youngest master ever in age of 23
    but council decided otherwise......

Mace Windu became a Master when he was in his 20s but he was the only one to have ever done so IIRC.

As far as Ahsoka, I thought she was small for her age and that Anakin and Obi-Wan both thought she was younger than 14?

Well she was 14 in the beginning of TCW and I believe she is 15 now. Yet Lucas said somewhere that she was originally supposed to be 11 in the movie, but it was changed to 14. That's probably why she looked "small/young" for her age when she first appeared.

Of course I'm glad that her age was changed to 14 simply because of her outfits. Ahsoka wearing those kinds of outfits at age 14/15 is one thing, but in my opinion the idea of a 11 year old alien girl running around in a tube top is just plain wrong. I'm far from being a prude but I don't think its a good idea for young children (read kids under oh lets say 14 years) to wear those kinds of outfits. So all in all I'm glad her age was upped from 11 to 14.

@Tarkus-The LOTR and Gandalf joke was based on the fact that quite a few people here were stating that the Mortis Trilogy had plenty of LOTR (as well as other fantasy) references in their respective talk-back threads. I know very well that Tolkein didn't create those archetypes.

    Edit 3:
Don't get me wrong if I had a 14/15 year old daughter I wouldn't allow her to wear those outfits either. Its just that the idea of an 11 year old girl wearing a tube top or a top with a hole in the center makes me more uncomfortable than a 14/15 year old girl wearing one, that's all. However if I were a parent and I had 11 and 14/15 year old daughters I wouldn't allow either of them to wear the kinds of outfits that Ahsoka wears.

Hope that clears things up. [face_peace]

we don't really know ages of many jedi but if some eu says Mace was younger than normal.... still it's 'just EU' what comes to reliability - not that i would hate EU or anything -but you know nowadays it's hard to say EU is "reliable" what comes to in-universe facts......
Still Mace being master in his 20s sounds logical he is one skilled jedi.....

agreed but 14 year-old in tubetop is not exactly right either..... not that jedi in tubetop would make much sense in the first place......

Ahsoka's "jediage" is 11 she has been in order 11 years[face_laugh] Ahsoka is not small or younglooking to be 14 really so i guess those are remains of original script with 11-year old Soka but then again they were waiting for someone like that 15-year old Soka she had quite a growth burst...

Some of us feel that way about it for 14/15 year old girls too. My 14/15 year old daughter would not be wearing either of those outfits!

One of Karen Miller's novels mentions that Ahsoka is very small, and I think Karen Traviss' Clone Wars movie novelization mentions it too.

Well even for adult woman tubetops are really very porn IMO- no self-respecting normal woman should use those in daily bases....... just my opinion- but really such outfits while sexy of course- are actually... dangerous-

just imagine male driving a car sees a woman in tubetop walking down the street=P~WOW-
    BIG CRASH[face_beatup]

I'm not saying all should wear like nuns or anything but normal shirt goes a long way.... ok this goes off-topic too much but really has anyone any more to say about Anakin's facial hairs?[face_laugh]

Her novels are nothing to me[face_talk_hand] besides she is taller than Padmé now....

I'm almost ashamed to say this but I think Mace Windu's early promotion was part of the Jedi Temple's new racial equality and anti employee discrimination policies.

This thread forced me to create a new Mass Effect game character with such a 'stache. Admitted, due to the limited range of hair styles he ended up looking more like Boil than Anakin, but still, it's the effort that counts.
Talking of 'still': I'm still sore that it's not an option for female characters... [face_skull]

Then maybe Lucas can digitally insert facial hair into the rerelease of ROTS

*waits for someone to photoshop Hitler stache onto Anakin during march scene*

    Hey, don't look at me.:p

Besides, the Hitler mustache joke has been tainted by those Tea Party nuts. It will take at least five years for that connection to be forgotten about before the stache can be used for humorous purposes again.

Perhaps see Obi-Wan without his beard at one point - in some Satine based episode where she makes comment "as i said before, you look better without the beard" or something, haha. Actually, we've never seen the CGI-Obi Wan without a beard, so it'd almost be strange.

I'd love to see a flashback to a TPM-era Obi Wan, we've already got a Qui-Gon animation model to go with him, or maybe even an Obi Wan with a different look he might have sported in-between TPM and AOTC, with long hair and only stubble, a La Souvarov, an Anchor, or a Balbo.

Ahsoka: What's that on your face, Master?
    Anakin: It's a mustache.
Ahsoka: Okay. Can I call you Mr. Furry, Master?
    Anakin: No.
    Ahsoka: Why not, Master?
Anakin: Have you been on the Internet and seen how much I get made fun of already?
