CT How would you recast ANH - ca. 1970s actors

I'm pretty sure this has been done before, but usually with a modern twist (i.e. 90s/2000's actors). If you could recast ANH using actors that were active in the 1970s, how would you do it?

But, what if we recast it today?

 

Well, as I understand it, some of the casting choices for ANH that were being considered were Peter Firth as Luke, Sissy Spacek as Leia, Burt Reynolds as Han, Toshiro Mifune as Ben Kenobi and Orson Welles as the voice of Vader.

One ANH re-casting idea I've thought about was combining that characters of Gen. Dodonna and Red Leader, then casting John Wayne in the role. Having the Duke lead the attack on the Death Star would be cool beyond belief.

 

I'd watch the heck outta that! Can we somehow get Charleton Heston and Audrey Hepburn in there?

 

Hepburn was on my short list for Leia along with Joan Collins but I went for Taylor due to her spikey performance in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Heston was somebody I thought of but just couldn't fit in for a relatively major character, same with Burt Lancaster and Lee Marvin, who I really wanted in it.

 

What about alternative 80s?

I would not recast even one single actor in ANH... well, maybe that guy who originally played Jabba but he was removed twice anyway. All other characters are just fine the way they are.

While I've never played the game myself, I have watched some of my online friends play Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords on twitch.

Ava Gardner could have been an interesting Kreia.

(Had the game been a movie released around '84 or '85)

All those cigarettes would've helped with the voice. The cynicism she took on in her later years lends itself to Kreia's lectures about society and the Force. Give her the necessary wig too. It would've taken a lot of convincing, "the loot", since she would've found the role strange. But yeah!
