Soundtrack.net has a First Listen up of Howard Shore's score to David Cronenberg's new film, Eastern Promises. Based on the clips and descriptions, it appears that Shore is using a much smaller orchestra with heavy reliance on solo violin, solo clarinet, harp, and dulcimer. After his disappointing score to The Last Mimzy, it sounds like he's put together a solid score on this one. I usually love it when composers write scores with lots of solo instruments, and I can't wait to hear it in full when it is released on September 11.

I'm a sucker for scores with an eastern sound (especially with violin solos.) I also like Shore's subtle scores, which many of them have been overshadowed by his success with LotR. Can't wait to hear the full thing.
