When I see WTF I think the words spelled out. When I think WT* I still think the words spelled out.

The board is family-friendly and that includes limiting swear words.

    you're right

then perhaps the acronym should not be allowed either.

Well then either we ban the whole "double U, Tee, Ef" or let it be. Taking out the F is pointless

I always think the letters. [face_blush] I don't really think the acronyms are a big deal, but apparently someone does, or they wouldn't have come up for banning in the first place.

But remember the "Non System Disk Error" thread from a few months ago? The title on every thread with the 'typo title' was edited too, I just assumed it was policy.

Actually, we're probably not supposed to say "WT*" either, but we can't very well post things like

"We can say *****, but not *** or *******"

because that would not be conducive to efficient communication.

F in those acronyms doesn't have to mean "the" F word. It could very easily mean freak.

Rules like this are nothing more than thought policing. Maybe that crazy lit guy was onto something.

Banning swear words = thought policing?

Eh? You're still free to express your thoughts without using swear words. You're still free to use swear words off the board as well.

Actually, somewhere in one of the other quintillion "Marking out Swear Words" debates, someone posted something like that. While funny, it was a bit difficult to follow. :p

What's the big deal about not being able to post a silly acronym? I mean, I do think it's weird that an acronym is not allowed, but why do people feel "repressed" because they can't use acronyms with "F" in them?

No, I said I can understand banning cuss words. It's banning letters that could stand for cusswords that's thought policing.

Okay, seriously, how many people think the 'F' stands for freak? It's going to be a minority.

Well if peoples perverted minds want the F to mean something bad, that is not the problem of people like me :p

I bid you farewell, because this is becoming pointless. I end with saying again:

Why would you get more offended by WTF than WT*...Give me one decent, good, sane, rational answer, and i give in

Sometimes someone makes a post so bizarre that that's the best reaction.

If you don't believe me, hang out in an Episode III forum and wait for someone to post their newest Episode III theories... or just post "news" from SuperShadow. :p

Yeah, but what if you get a person who thinks that hell is a bad word and stars it out? The point of the stars it to allow for some ambiguity. Just because we all know what the * in WT* means doesn't mean that some new to the internet ten-year-old pretending to be thirteen is going to know what it means. I think that's the whole idea. . .

Maybe I'm too desensitized for this kind of thing. I said the *-word for the first time when I was seven, and I learned it from my mother, not from some SW message board.

Ten year olds shouldn't be here. We shouldn't cater to people who aren't even supposed to be here.

Is Josh still spooked about that 'mom' whose 'kid' saw some naughty words here and she threatened legal action or some BS?

Puh-leeze. People who break the rules shouldn't be allowed to sue anybody. [face_plain] If you go somewhere you're not supposed to be and get hurt, it's a shame that sometimes other people have to pay for the trespasser's medical bills. Makes me want to barf. . .

Anyway, I agree about not catering to ten year olds who saw *gasp* a BAD word. The parents should watch some George Carlin. That'd learn em. :p
