ST Humor and jokes in TFA

There's absolutely no reason to assume that there won't be any humor in this. The trailer is trying to set a tone, humor would have been out of place in it. I'm not familiar with all of JJ's work, but the ones I watched all used humor. Lost had humor, Fringe had humor, Super 8 had humor, and both the Star Treks had it. I expect that he will put some lighter moments in this too, he just wants to show that he is taking the franchise seriously.

 

They should go for this kind of humor (language warning):

 

Well, I rather want to hear lines like "The Force is strong with you, young Skywalker, but you are not a jedi yet" than stuff like "There has been an awakening, have you felt it? - Burp, uh, yeah, in my pants, huhu!" or "Just let it in. - Yeah, that's what she said!". Or rather see Vader kneeling before the Emperor than seeing Kylo Ren step in some alien poop and says "Eeeeew! Hope that's chocolate! *Sniff, sniff* Guess it isn't...".

 

Didn't knew this thread existed, but yeah you are right.

This is a dangerous promotional game JJ and LFL is playing. While it is absolutely great that this movie is serious, dark but if there is no humor it's going to attract less average moviegoers.

There are many movie fans want humor and you can see that Jurassic World (Chris Pratt is a very funny man), Avengers (Very funny thruout) both appeals to the MASSES and these movies have the year's BEST Box Office!

By not showing people EVERYTHING that this movie has to offer (Humor, aliens, etc) it probably won't at all effect it's fans but the average people would think this movie is not for them.

If I heard that there was a 10 minute laxative prank sequence, I would be interested. If it was confirmed in a trailer, I'd buy a ticket right now.

 

Did everyone just completely forget about R2 and 3P0? Of course there will be humor with those two in the movie. I'm sure BB8 has some funny moments too!

There won't be much humor. These are dark times for the resistance. This is a different kind of movie than ANH.

 

"Unbalanced" is a great word. So versatile, it can describe, not only movies, but certain people as well.

 

It can be dark and funny at the same time. Just rebuild HK-47.

 

This film needs one joke and one joke only - Han Solo declaring to another character:

"I always shoot first."

 

This is exactly the point I came in to make. I'm a big fan of Lost and Fringe, which were always full of humour even in their darkest episodes. Star Trek also has a lot, despite one of them being called 'Into Darkness'.

 

My guess is there will be exactly the same level of humour that existed in Star Wars*.

* By which I mean the first movie. If I live to be a thousand, I still won't feel comfortable calling it 'A New Hope'.

Not too many laughs there - looks like a pretty dark story to me, not sure I'll bother with it, etc.

Good point. I had forgotten how hilarious the trailers for the other Star Wars films were. Oh, wait...
