Abq Hurricane Relief - Bosque Farms Bowling Alley

Lor forwarded a message to me from the proprietor of the Bosque Farms Bowling Alley in Bosque Farms, just south of Albuquerque.

Jackie Gillette wanted to know if we would be able to make a costumed appearance at her bowling alley for two reasons:

(1) Help her promote the Strike Force Bowling League at the Bosque Farms Bowling Alley
(2) Help raise money for the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund

She is asking for Saturday, September 10th - I'm not sure what time, though. They have room to suit up if you need it.

Below is a copy of the email that the BPAA (Bowling Proprietor's Association of America) is sending out to all member Bowling Alleys:

BPAA MEMORANDUM

DATE: Wednesday, August 31, 2005

TO: All BPAA Member Bowling Centers

FROM: John Berglund, Executive Director and Cary Richmond, Director - Communications

SUBJECT: Disaster Relief for Hurricane Katrina Victims

Pursuant to a directive by BPAA President Jeff BojZ and BPAA's Member Goodwill Sub Committee, BPAA is calling on all of its member centers to unite in responding to the rapidly growing needs in the areas stricken by Hurricane Katrina.

BPAA and the USBC are joining forces to encourage bowling centers and bowlers alike to donate to the American Red Cross for the hurricane relief efforts. BPAA's Foundation will act as a central collection point for those bowling centers and/or bowlers who want to contribute and will deliver 100% of all proceeds collected to the American Red Cross. BPAA's Foundation will bundle all contributions and deliver the combined donations to the Red Cross in one check for the purpose of keeping track of bowling's overall impact to this relief effort.

Many suggestions and fund raising ideas have already been launched. One such fund raiser, Operation Relief Lanes, has been developed by Greg Olsen and the Washington State BPA. This effort encourages bowlers, their friends, relatives and business associates to visit their local neighborhood bowling centers on Saturday September 3rd or Saturday, September 10th between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. local time. Participating bowling center owners are asked to collect bowling fees during "one hour" sessions and to preferably remit one check to the BPAA Foundation, which in turn will add that to the overall donation being presented to the American Red Cross. Additionally, bowling enthusiasts are encouraged to ask friends, business owners, and co-workers to sponsor their bowling session for an additional $5, $10, $25 or whatever they wish to contribute. Bowling center owners are also encouraged to ask league and casual open play customers to organize their friends to join them at their local centers on one of the two designated Saturdays in September. Birthday parties & corporate events can be scheduled to support the effort. Details are posted at www.wsbpa.org. or call 1-800.736-BOWL for information.

Other suggestions include simply placing a donation jar on your front counter, or having someone stroll along your concourse with a donation jar. In areas where this is legalized, centers can hold a "50/50 Raffle" to raise donations for the Hurricane Relief effort. Regardless of your fund raising choice, your help is greatly needed.

Just as our fellow Floridians needed help in 2004, today our fellow citizens along the Gulf Coastal areas are in dire need of our assistance.

Checks by bowling centers or bowlers should be made out to 'BPAA Foundation' and designate it for 'Red Cross Hurricane Relief' (however, checks made out to the American Red Cross are acceptable as well).

I don't troop but I can man a table & squire to the troops (ie help put on the armor) with the best of them.

After 12? Gimme some hours, as they want to know when and how long we'd be willing...

FYI, I won't be able to attend this event, so I need a coordinator to work with. Who's willing to step up to the plate?
