I was just wondering what everyone was doing for Lent?

I am going to give up Chocolate... Not the sugar Free kind...Lord knows I cannot go cold turkey...

Now mind you, I am not Catholic however I figure...why not. I have always heard about Lent and I wanted to try it. I talked with a girl here at work and I understand what it is for and even in my faith I feel like it is a noble cause. So here we go?.

    Until Midnight?where is the Hershey?s?

i'm glad that you are getting into the spirit of Lent -- Lent is a time for more than just giving something up (abstaining), but also a time for prayer and charity. As you give up chocolate, perhaps reflect on what that means in a larger sense -- know that there are many in the world who suffer from hunger or malnutrition, and then act on that -- donating of your time and resources toward improving the situation of those in need.

I usually give up fast food for Lent, but since i've mostly stopped eating fast food in general, it wouldn't be that much of a change for me this year. i will have to search harder... a few years ago, i gave up looking for action figures for lent... perhaps this year i can give up video games or CSI.

Rather than giving something up I'm attempting to read atleast a chapter from the Bible every day.

I'm giving up archaic religions traditions for Lent... ;)

    Hee hee hee!!

In all seriousness tho, I have kind of been giving up, well, everything over the turmoil of the last year or so... Perhaps I should, to do something different, indulge myself for a change...

I'm not giving up anything, because I already have almost no caffeine, no sugar, no potatoes, no rice, no pasta (and we won't discuss the other things there is none of :p ).... However, I am increasing my time at the shelter and I'm now coaching a 16 & Under girls softball team :)

In my religion we don't necessarily have to give something up for Lent, but I like to get into the spirit of things. I'll probably give up soda. Which will good for me physically, as well. :)

I went to Sonic yesterday and they had a "Lenten Combo" which consisted of a fish sandwich, fries, and a Coke...way to go commercialism! Exploiting Lent...that's the American way! [face_laugh]

Since I am not Catholic I'll not be giving up anything for Lent except Lent.

I am proud of you who are participating for good causes though and if I could stand being more self sacrificing at the moment I'd join you for the heck of it but you know being pregnant I've already given up my body, my emotions, my bladder, my sleep, my posture, and my composure to a good cause...now all I need to do is get it out! Think happy thoughts for me...labor thoughts...I need this kid out soon or I'm gonna go bonkers!

I am not Catholic either I just thought it would be a good reason to kick start my diet.

I hope my doing so does not offend any of my Catholic friends. I would just like to experience what it is like to do something for your beliefs. I asked the girl here at work about Lent and she gave me a pretty good analogy...

"You are giving up something you hold in high regard to suffer, in a way, the show your belief in Christ and his suffering"

Okay, sounds good to me, though not a Christian I believe that Christ was a good man and that he tried to bring peace to people. Unfortunately it turned around and now people kill in his name.

Not to sound silly but it reminds me of the Dune series. Muad'Dib was, in a way, suppose to be a savior to the people but after a while it was twisted and people were being killed in the name of Muad'Dib.

I guess I am feeling a little philosophical. My beliefs say ?Do what you will and harm none? yet my ancestors were burned for this.

A discussion broke out in class and people began knocking down others faiths. A girl turned to me and said, ?Well, I know you agree with us?? I replied, ?No, I don?t. I do not believe that that which one believes in should be treated as a joke. Though in the past I have gotten angry when people have won great awards and said ?First I would like to thank God?. I realize now that that person?s faith kept them on the path they needed to be on. Though God did not actually vote in the Academy Awards in this person?s heart his or her strength of belief got them where they needed to go?

Okay, time to go work? stepping of the soap box?
