    In other 'Guardians' news, James Gunn tells Moviefone that the upcoming film boasts a "ton" of Marvel references, in fact there's around four times as many in here as there are in any previous Marvel movie"
    "I actually have to clear everything with legal. We put in little things like graffiti on the walls and stuff like that. There's a ton of characters from the comics in this movie, in little tiny roles. But we have to clear everything with legal because once I use their name then I'm screwed in that scene or whatever. We have just tons of reference to Marvel Cosmic throughout the movie. And I'm certain probably the most Marvel comics characters ever in one movie."​

    Yeah, in between the comedy and clumsily re-edited dialogue (which we're starting to hear in their entirety where they come across much, much better) there are these small moments here and there in the TV spots that hint at something special if the film truly capitalizes on them.

    "I really liked GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. The characters work so well together. Gunn nails space opera. I'm excited for GUARDIANS 2 not for plot reasons but bc the heavy lifting of establishing everything is done and the characters can sing. Weird thing: while GUARDIANS has the most Thanos-**** yet it's the Marvel movie that stands most on its own. It feels whole." - Devin Faraci

    I would imagine he means there are many references to Thanos in the film, building him up for the audience, without actually doing anything with him. Nebula probably reports to him, Drax probably talks about why he wants him dead, etc but I doubt he really steps out of the shadows and onto centre stage for this film.

    James Cameron and Disney - these are the only entities that have ever released a $1 billion movie that wasn't a franchise/sequel. If Guardians is an above-average movie, I'd give it a decent shot at a billion worldwide. It is getting the Disney/Marvel global marketing juggernaut treatment. It already looks infinitely more appealing than John Carter. It may get some of the Marvel Avengers halo effect.

    Or it could make Tom Cruise Edge of Tomorrow money. Hard to say.
