Are the Mando words next to the ranks the actual translations? If so, where did you get the translations?

 

They are. You can find a good resource for Mando'a at the Wookieepedia article here, and an easy to use English-to-Mando'a translation dictionary at Mandoa.org.

Is Ketsu even Mandalorian though? Do we know? We know Sabine went to the Imp academy on Mandalore, but when and where did she meet Ketsu? I'm assuming it's after she left the academy, and there's no law that says only Mandalorians can be bounty hunters...so...

Zare Leonis was born on Uquine, yet attended imperial academies on both Lothal and Arkanis. Thus, I'd imagine the fact that Ketsu attended the academy on Mandalore doesn't necessarily mean she's Mandalorian (though personally I'm assuming she is).

 

I assume she is too which is why I'm curious as to what her house affiliation is.

 

I would be pleased if she is, and the title of the episode she's introduced in makes me lean toward her being Mandalorian, but I don't want to get my hopes up too much.

 

I'll be unhappy if Ketsu isn't a Mando.

You don't necessarily need to wear Mandalorian armour to be Mandalorian. TCW displayed pretty much all the Mando's as white blondes, but Rebels has went against that with Sabine, and possibly Ketsu.

 

Mando's have always pretty much been space vikings, apparently Filloni and Lucas took that very literally.

 

Not exactly. There was some Viking influence on the ancient Mandalorians, to be sure, but far more from the Mongols and Gallo-Celtic groups, while modern-era Mandos drew heavily from Maori, Native American, First Nations, and contemporary British-American military cultures, with some Arab and East Asian influences spread across the timeline. TCW's decision to push an overwhelming Nordic/Aryan look for their New Mandalorians was a radical and problematic departure from the omni-inclusive, multiethnic material that preceded it.

 

Well, it was cheaper to do that, but I always looked at it as us seeing only part of their society, and that they probably had some sort of messed up caste system based on appearance, so only the white and blond people got to run the government.

Agree. I'd much rather learn Sabine and Ketsu's stories than dwell on New Mandalore.

 

Maybe that just represents Kalevala? we were really only seeing the new Mandalorians in TCW.

And a quick google search shows that Kalevala is a compilation of finnish poetry,
folklore and mythology. Considered by many to represent the national heart of Finland.
So yeah Satine and the new Mando's are definitely based on scandinavia.

Mandalorians aren't the type to go down quietly. Sabine, if she ever was to be killed, would go down fighting.

 

I was joking about the peel. I don't know how she should go but her last word? FREEDOM!
