The lack of update on the OS is very annoying. I mean, part 8 of the ROTJ doc has been out on YouTube for a week.

It's like *everyone* at Lucasfilm broke their legs.

 

I'm very much a huge fan of much of his work, so this sort of thing gives me a glimmer of hope that Episode VII will turn out better than expected (ie: my expectations), better than how TPM (again, from my point of view) turned out... I mean, why else would he be so giddy about it, right? Right?!.

 

He has the same reaction to all 3 prequels. The man can't separate from nostalgia enough to provide a rational opinion (which I can't fault him for; I'm the same way).

 

Yeah and what does looking at a set prove?

 

That the set looks really really cool

Yeah, I hate to say it but cool-looking sets don't mean that much. Story-Script-Acting-Mythos-Fun-Adventure take precedence.

 

Exactly. I can still remember Spielberg waxing lyrical when GL was showing him around TPM set and showing him the Battle Droids, and we all know how that turned out....

 

OK I did some checking on cast reveals for TPM and came up with the following:

TPM principal photography took place from the 26th June 1997 to the 30th September 1997. Interesting how much shorter the filming time was compared with Episode VII, and yet how much longer was post-production...

I have an article in front of me from the Official Star Wars Magazine dated October/November 1997 and it appears to be the first reveal that I can find of the sorts of characters people are playing in the movie. There are details on Liam, Ewan, Jake, Natalie and Pernilla's characters but with the names of Qui Gon and Padme still not being revealed at that stage. This was after PP had finished.

A couple of months later the magazine published a cast list of over 20 actors, which made it seem like a very crowed production. It was easy to extrapolate all kinds of false leads as to who was playing whom from this list. I seem to recall Celia Imrie (who was on this cast list) being touted as a Skywalker by some at one point. She was well known at the time on British TV in various roles. In the end we see her on screen for all of ten seconds as a Naboo Pilot! I hope we get more than ten seconds of Lupita and Gwendoline...

I must confess that more information on the characters is the sort of reveal I hope to get sooner rather than later, but this makes me wonder if we will get this at all before PP finishes...

Ah ya ya... you and I my fellow fan are polar opposites. Like the latest Star Trek and the Dark Knight Rises...movies that I really want to see, I avoided everything and dont even watch the trailers (I even changed the channel is there was a TV spot) and Star Wars will be no different.

Besides knowing the cast, I plan on walking into the cinema not knowing what to expect.
