This is the kind of thing that reminds me why I got out of doing fan sites in the first place... Nothing I've ever seen on the web is as scary as fansite politics.

Well, except for maybe Harry Knowles.

The support for non-TF.N sites is growing steadily as people begin to grow disconcerted with TF.N's handling of major Star Wars news and its members.

If TF.N is the No.1 site for Star Wars' fans, then why does it post second grade stories and pay little attention to its growing market; the PSA Forum?

Although the SW.Com message boards are very ordinary in content, they should send a clear message to TF.N that many members are willing to jump ship at the drop of a pin.

I have expressed my concerns regarding this to Josh, who has outlined that there are changes on their way for TF.N. But after Vertical's post today, it is clear that TF.N are still missing the point. Perhaps there is more to follow later.

    Ternian :)

Ternian brings up good points. By the way spamming is never a solution you can get into trouble and stuff. You send 1000 messages to some one, it can cause problems.

If that guy had posted his opinion here, he would've been censored and banned.

I think I'm going to have to go back to my old sig.

So which disgruntled formerly banned TF.N forum member wrote that? Pretty harsh writing yet oddly enough it's anonymous. Have some guts and say who you are.

Someone sent me this link to a site that has hacked passages from the private moderator board. No sense saying more about it except that I'm struck by the fact that with all the accusations about this editorial being juvenile, I'm reading some pretty sad "playgroud" battles.....

Fathead, if you have a problem with me, why don't you PM me instead of constantly digging at me. I haven't seen one positive remark from you. And no, I don't think you're kidding.

I think that what this article is trying to say is that Scott and Josh are here *mainly* to make money, to become famous in a way, and to get free stuff. It only doesn't seem that way to us because TFN and its boards are fun to go to, and because a lot of us are here not for profit or anything like that, being that we aren't the webmasters or creators, we don't realize what the bigger guys are up to. We are simply thankful for the site and don't care or realize what goes on behind it, and because it's fun we give our loyalty to the site. Is this blind loyalty, though? Are Aldera and JN really merely just jealous, or do they have a point ANYWHERE at all? I really don't know, but I don't think it'll do to just pass it off as crap simply because we like TFN.

This is just the school yard mentality of pick on the one who has the most. TFN is the Star Wars site I visit the most, even more then the official site, and other web pages out there might not take kindly knowing that one group is larger then their own.

    Just let it go...

    Uh, what?

I don't know what schoolyards you are familiar with, but it's usually the ones with the most picking on those with the least.

I've found that a lot of the people writing this whole fiasco off as mere jealousy are usually the least educated about the whole situation. Rather than take the time to read and find out, they just read the first two lines, make a snap judgment and speak with a voice of authority about it. I don't care if people consider this beneath their concern, and I fully understand why people would think it's petty uselessness going on--but if people would actually READ, they'd understand how this isn't merely site against site, but how these actions will DIRECTLY affect fansite readers of ALL sites. TFN IS the biggest, yes, and with that comes some responsibility to the fan community and LFL itself..whether they're living up to that is what those articles at Aldera and Jedinet is trying to talk to us about...

But apparently no one wants to read that much. Or put in that much effort. So instead of merely not commenting on it, they speak from ignorance and guesswork and plug in the easiest soap-opera plot they can, regardless of whether or not it fits.

    Happy Halloween [face_mischief]

As public enemy #1, I don't expect my contributions to this discussion to be taken well around here, but I wanted to step in for a sec..

It's quite obvious to me that not everyone in this discussion knows the real situation and relationships between the fan sites. Nor does anyone know what's been going on behind the scenes since I posted Chitwood's emails on Aldera.net.

This thread is interesting to read, but I think many of your opinions will change within the next week or so. I think people's opinions of online fandom are going to change as well.

A very well thought-out post. I do see your points.

Now, please, humor me for a second, since I have read your post with an open mind, and concede some of your points...

How is what Charles did (reposting on the front page of his site emails in an attempt to belittle Scott, regardless of how 'justified' he felt it was) something the entire SW community can be proud of? To me, that response was just as petty and juvenille as people would claim TFN is.

How is what he did noble? How is what he did in the interest of the SW community?

If you wish us all to be objective, certainly you should be too? What is your opinion on Charles' response?
