Okay, just wondering: does anyone else around here ice skate?

I've been figure skating since I was four, but I quit for three years and just came back two years ago.

    Anyone else ice skate?

The OP wasn't but I'm sure you can.

Anyways no...we don't really have the weather for it here. :p

    Sure, why not?

Do you speed skate? I've always kind of wanted to try it.

I haven't seen snow in almost 7 years. How big do you think ice sports are here? [face_laugh]

I'd probably stink at skating if I ever tried it anyway.

We used to have an ice rink in our back yard.

    Literally? Wow, cool!

    I want one!

Did you make it? Or was it an outside one?

We lived in Northern Ontario. You shoveled and leveled the snow, got out the hose, and voila.

My unfortunate paternal unit got to do the shoveling.

None of us were good skaters, however.

    I want one! :p

I am an okay skater for quitting for three years I guess; I'm working on Freestyle 6 in ISI and could pass up to Pre-Juvenile in USFSA, but haven't found the time. (both are skating organizations)

It was fun...it was surrounded by huge piles of snow, and we used to sled on them.

It's gotten warmer where we used to live. Can't do it any more.

I see the Yanks are bawling about not being able to train full time in the Olympic speed-skating oval in Richmond. Well, boo hoo. It cost $200,000,000 and we paid it. Find your own.

I don't really have any idea what you're talking about. I figure skate. :p

Probably you don't. You free skate. Actual figures haven't been skated in nearly 20 years.

Well, yeah. But everybody still calls it figure skating.

    It's not accurate, though.

I wish they would bring figures back as a separate discipline.
