[ICON] Icon Proposal (please vote on the future of sports icons)

If you're going to allow basketball icons, allow Euro 2004 icons plz

If not, the badgers will devour you.

 

i'm with stackpole.

i enjoy the sports icons.

But i proppse this, only during the major sports events like playoffs or final games. I like seeing who is going for the lakers and the pistons. When the series is over with do away with the sports icons.

But i would liks some euro 2004 icons.

 

eh... this is a tricky subject...

I like the idea of icons for major events, such as the Olympics, but for regular sports finals, I'd say no. It's not that those finals aren't important or major, it's just that there are quite a lot.

The Olympics is an international competition and only happens once in a while. If we were to put up icons for every nation's finals, we would have too many icons and too little familiarity. For example: An American may not know or care about a British competition, and a Britain may not know or care about an American competition.

 

Do mods get to vote? If so, I vote no.

On another subject -- can we vote on getting rid of all of the non-SW related icons of the SW authors?

I don't mind pics of a) the authors themselves and b) the author's SW-related works.

But I don't think we should include their non-SW related stuff in icons.

Olympics are once every two year events that cover an entirely GLOBAL arena -- rather than more frequent sporting events that are localized.

FIFA World Chapionship is also global event with more than 200 countries in qualifications, and it's every 4 years.

For athletics WC, basketball WC, you can also make a case they are global in nature.

I (personally) would probably be open to the World Cup Soccer (or Football, depending on where you live ) as well.

I'm just not for individualized league championships, even within my home country.

Thats just an excuse. I'm aware that the Olympics are an international thing and they only come every few years, but are you aware what they do? Anything with Pakastani high jumpers = sport. Anything with running while holding a big fiery peice of metal = sport. If someone wants to express their patriotisim for their country in the Olympics, they can kindly go to a Olympic-related message board and rant all they want. I see no need for that to be here.

And you still contradict yourself with no sports--yes olympics.

 

Onlymics are a global event, which in many ways makes them like a holiday. I remember there was certainly a holiday spirit in Atlanta when the games were here.

Olympics=Global


other sports=national, multinational at most.
