ST Icon..nicity?

The ST is more like a sequel to the OT not a direct sequel to ROTJ. A thirty year gap is hardly a direct sequel. We'll get that through books/comics.

 

Going from Episode 3 to 4 had a very abrupt change in visual storytelling. Episode 6 to 7 will feel much more natural, but still new and different. Like ESB compared to ANH.

 

I make no judgments about costumes and such, except I like what I've seen thus far.

I'll wait until after the film is in my memory banks to comment on anything else.

 

Kylo Ren is TOTALLY icon-y!

If nothing else, I think BB-8 will be an icon that will last. Like Mickey Mouse, they created a character from the most basic of geometric shapes (circles) and one that is phychologically very pleasing to the eye. BB-8 is cute, emotive, quickly read in silllouette or in the abstract, and instantly distinguishable from other characters. As another poster mentioned, he is easy to draw and recognisable even in the most abstract representation.



As much as some dislike it, I think Kylo-Ren's saber is another design that could become iconic of the ST.

 

How's that? Is Luke Skywalker going to become a stalker/peeping Tom like Superman did?
