Icon Thread--Version 7: Don't underestimate the power of the icons...

This is the 7th version of the Icon Submission thread. I, DVeditor, am your current Icon Manager. My job is select the best icons from those made and put them up for vote so that the Icon Artists as a group can selet the winners. I then upload them for use around the JC.

This thread serves as the community for Icon Artists. Here, Icon Artists post their icons for consideration. Icon Artists should be critiquing each other's work, sharing ideas and comments to increase the quality of JC Icons as a whole.

Everyone is welcome to submit Icons. This is not a restricted community. What IS restricted, though, is the voting. Only users who contribute icons and post in this thread on a consistent basis are invited to vote on which icons should be uploaded. The decision of who is to vote is mine. If Icon Artists do not contribute regularly and are not active in this thread, they can lose the ability to vote. Remember, ANYONE can submit an icon, just make sure it follows the rules below!

The Rules:

Icon Size
Icons can be three sizes:
-50x50, Regular
-90x30, Tall
-30x90, Widescreen

Icon Format
All icon submissions should be in .gif image format. JPGS can be accepted, but gis are preferred.

Icon Content
All icons must be in some way Star Wars related. Icons from Star Wars sources is preferred, but usually anything can quailfy for the vote if it is modified in some way to tie it into Star Wars (example: pikachu with a lightsaber).

Note: Special events and/or themes will often be exceptions to this rule. When a new holiday, event, or theme is announced the allowed content will be clarified at that time.

Your Icon Webpage
All Active Icon Artists must maintain a website to archive and advertise their icon work. The page needs to differentiate between new icons and old icons. This will help your fellow icon makers review your material, give constructive criticism, and allow me to go back and search for potential icons for upload. You do not need to add descriptions to your icons, but it can be very helpful for the more obscure characters.

JC Icon Familiarity
As an Icon Artist here at the JC, it is advised that you become familiar with the icons currently uploaded. We currently have almost 3,500 icons in a multitude of different categories. Some characters and things are better represented than others. Always make sure that the icon you created isn't too similar to an already exisiting one. Also, sometimes existing icons could use to be "cleaned up" or perfected in some way.


The Process for new Icons
- Icon Artists post their submissions as a link to their site
- I browse through the icons submitted and select what I determine to be the best icons out of the lot. Best doesn't necessarily mean most artistic, it means best for the JC. Icons of good quality, ones that fill gaps in our coverage, ones from unique and new sources, ones with independent style.
- After these icons are selected, I post them on the Night's Icon Voting Web Site, and post an annoucnement in this thread.
- Active Icon Makers then vote for the best icons. Only the Icon Artists may vote. Anyone can see the number of votes icons are earning.
- Only the most popular of those offered will be uploaded, but the actual number of icons uploaded each week is variable, depending on how long it has been since the last vote, and how many good icons were submitted. Special exceptions are made for important events.
- The Icon Manager does not vote in this final tally.
- I then upload the icons to the JC for use. This system seems to work quite effectively and has stood the test of time.

Alright guys, I still don?t have access to the voting site or anything, so it may be a bit longer before I am able to do anything with the star wars icons.

But!

We have a project. As I am sure you are all aware, Halloween is quickly approaching! And the JC is going to need a bunch of frightfully wonderful new icons. As a reminder, superheros and magical things are also appropriate for halloween icons.

So, get your scary images out and let?s see what you guys can do!

EDIT: I forgot... there will be NO voting on these. We will be accepting a large number of icons, and most will be accepted. If they get approved, they're going up.

Awesome job, guys. Also, zacparis, those Frank ones are super super creepy

Basically what I am doing is pulling the good ones off your sites and saving them on my computer, and then they will get sent to raven to upload. So, you guys probably won't have any idea what is getting chosen to upload until the icons are available to the public. But they'll only be up for a few days, anyways. And we'll have 100s of icons.

Well it was Mace as black on white, so I selected arround him and then made a new layer with it filled with white and set the background to black so its not technicaly a hyperspace image just simply a copy made from no hyperspace image.

Edit: Btw I just noticed a flaw in taking away our titles, now we dont know who the 'Icon Artist' are anymore and who can and cant vote.

 

Yeah, I know. There is a list of Icon Artists that can vote on nashira's site above. One I get things going a bit more, I'll move the list to somewhere I am hosting, and make sure everyone who's on it is someone who contributes. But for now, that list up there will do.
