I'm no fan of the movie. The David Arnold score is fantastic.

The score is amazing. I even came across people who normally don't listen to film scores listening to it and playing it at parties in early high school.

Not, but I did tape the fake-news invasion special (which, upon rewatching it the next day, freaked my grandma out as she thought it was real!).

Some of it is nostalgia (up until the midnight showing of The Dark Knight, I'd never experienced a movie that audiences were so into as much as they were for ID4), some of it is pure admiration for the trailer revolution it kicked off, but it's still a damn fun movie to me.

Anyone happen to remember the name of that ID4 fan film that some high school produced in the late 90's? I remember it being relatively big genre news since they built a full sized crashed Attacker fighter in the front of the school and an alien puppet/suit.

Well....Independence Day is one of those fun distraction movies to watch with friends over greasy delivery pizza and cheap microwave queso dip. It's not a *good* movie, but it can be enjoyed if youve got good company....ESPECIALLY if they are all aficionados of MST3k/RiffTrax. ;)

It's a fun romp that stands the test of time IMO. Aliens try to destory everything, good guys triumph in the end.

That would be the BEST title for the sequels!

Yes. The original was a great homage to disaster and alien invasion movies.

So, are the sequels going to be homages to an homage?

    DAMMIT!

    Fox cancels ID4 3D

Didn't care about the 3D, but I really wanted to see this on the big screen one more time. I was looking forward to this more than Jurassic Park's rerelease, quite frankly.

Maybe this has already been talked about in this thread, but why do you guys shorten it to ID4? ID is Independence Day, sure, and it's July 4, sure, but the 4 isn't anywhere in the actual title, but it's really quite redundant.

It was marketed that way at the time.

There was a trend at the time for big movies to have abbreviations ala T2, JP or MIB for their marketing.

Almost every poster, trailer, TV spot & toy package for the movie, when it came for the credits/title, had ID4 prominently used (or have "Independence Day" listed on top of the "ID4" logo backdrop).

It's only in recent years that the awareness of the abbreviation has fallen by the wayside due to audiences who only see it on cable or streaming, where it's only listed as "Independence Day", instead of theaters or on video cover art.

"Don't make plans for August" is one of the best worst taglines I've ever heard. I personally wish they'd gone with, "It's going to be a VERY long weekend."

I'm pretty sure I slid the tab down and submitted a school assignment on mine. :p I had the one where you had to launch the fighter craft.

I too got those Mission Discs when I bought the F-16 Fighter and that Los Angeles Playset as a kid, during a time, when I basically just bought toys for the sake of buying toys. Hadn't even seen the movie until three years later. Haven't played either of those Mission Disks either.

Anyway, this rumour of possible sequels to ID4 reminds me of:

Apart from it being about a different Roland Emmerich movie, it's pretty much life imitates art.

"Doesn't anyone have any missiles left?!?!?!?"

Ranks right up there with JFK's "ask what you can do for your country" in famous quotes by presidents.

My favourite guilty pleasure film of all time :) Love it love it love it. The only thing that scares me is that the next two films will take themselves too seriously. When you think back to ID4, despite being in the sci-fi/action adventure genre, there was a spaghetti western tongue-in-cheek charm to it all.
