Dean Devlin has confirmed that ID4:2 has gotten the official green light from Fox (a formality I'd say, but an indication that it's finally out of development hell), and touches on why he and Emmerich (and likely Fox) ditched the idea of a two-parter and are going to take a wait and see approach re: ID4:3.

It seems like the plan is to shoot ID4:2, then the Stargate reboot right afterwards. Holy Lollapalooza, it's feeling quite 90s up in here. Can an Emmerich helmed Universal Soldier reboot be far behind?

Yes.

 

Both were direct-to-DVD and directed by John Hyams, son of Peter Hyams. I've seen the first of the two, and it actually wasn't half bad for what it is. I've got all four of the "official" Universal Soldier films (there were apparently two direct-to-video sequels in the late 90s, but they're not considered canon. Yes, Universal Soldier actually has canon) here, and for some unknown reason I plan to watch/re-watch them soon.

Some big casting news yesterday. Liam Hemsworth (his character will reportedly be connected to former President Whitmore, possibly as his son-in-law), Jessie Usher as Steven Hiller's stepson, and most importantly, Jeff Goldblum!!!

With Goldblum back I'd say our odds of winning again just doubled.

 

So Logia is a done deal as well ?

Definitely makes sense to bring Fox back, particularly with Smith not returning. Speaking of which, I really hope they explain Hiller's absence in a noble way (he died honorably or something along those lines) and don't try to take a dig at Smith through Hiller.

 

I'm still convinced Hiller is gonna be in it somehow. I'm hoping Force Ghost.
