Well, if the target is "sequels that came out almost 20 years later", then a 2 year difference vs a 4 year difference is significant.

Of course, I totally botched my math and 82-2010 would be 28 years so the point is moot anyways. [face_laugh]

Indy and the Dead series had 20 years between LC and KOTCS/Day of the Dead and Land of the Dead.

You know what no Will Smith means, right? More Robert Loggia!

They need to team up with the aliens from Signs in the sequel. They bring antivirus software, and the other ones bring raincoats. This time, nothing will stand in their way!

I could watch Robert Loggia berate, yell, and beat people up for hours and not get bored.

After Winter's Tale & After Earth, I could really do without Will Smith. Now not having Jeff Goldblum on the other hand....

It'd be nice if Baldwin returned as well.

Have...have...you even CONSIDERED, yes, CONSIDERED the possibility that this, uh, this FILM, won't be, um, anywhere as, um, uh, er, funny without, ahhhh, Jeff Goldblum in it?

Judd Hirsch needs to be in it again, too. If they don't make the movie soon, he's gonna start to decompose.

Randy Quaid needs to be in it- drunker and crazier. In fact, don't give him a script- just liquor him up and let him loose on-set and film whatever happens. CINEMA GOLD!!!

I'm fairly certain that the 'In-universe' explanation behind the alien's long delay will be that they were waiting for Judd Hirsch's character to die before proceeding.

Truth be told, the real world explaination may be a case of life imitating art. Only Roland Emmerich knows for sure.

    New writer for next draft.

Carter Blanchard ("Glimmer," "Diver") has been set to pen a new draft of Roland Emmerich's "Independence Day" sequel currently in the works at 20th Century Fox.

Emmerich and Dean Devlin worked on the earliest draft which Jamie Vanderbilt then took a crack at. Emmerich is prepping the film at the same time he shoots his Stonewall riots drama starring Jeremy Irvine.

Robert Loggia at the pinnacle of his career:

Not even a 12 year old kid is safe from Loggia beratement. You just don't want to know what happens when Billy doesn't clean his room....

When I saw the first title on is resume I thought "Wait, they got the guy who wrote Glitter?!". And then I re-read it and thought "Wait, they got the guy who wrote The Glimmer Man?!". Then I re-read it a second time and thought "What's Glimmer?".

Probably a topic for a different thread, but I just read that Emmerich is going to be re-booting Stargate after he finishes with ID:4-2/3 with an eye toward making it into a trilogy. By that time the original Stargate will be nearly 30 years old, which boggles my friggin' mind.

    Goldblum confirms involvement.

"I had a meeting and have been talking over the last several months or year with Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, the producer, and they've been cooking up and say they have a part for me in what they hope will be a plan to make another one pretty soon.... they're still talking about it and I've heard recent rumblings here and there about it, and 'Oh, there's a scripting coming in' - maybe last weekend there was a script handed in, so it's brewing."

If you haven't seen it yet, take some advice from someone who went to see it as a 12 year old kid; Leave the room during the arm wrestling scene [face_sick]

Really glad Goldblum is returning. With Will $mith opting out, I really need a touchstone to the original film.
