Luke also looks like he's aged quite a bit between TESB and ROTJ (since the movies were filmed 3 years apart). It's hard enough justifying his appearance with an 8 month gap - a 2 week gap would be a bit silly.

 

This true - Hamill almost looks like three different people over the course of the trilogy.

I don't think I'd limit the search solely to the range of the OP. I have always been pro-age gaps.

Glenn Close served no purpose in Guardians of the Galaxy other than to be a big name and neither Marvel or Star Wars needs a big name. Redford and Hopkins were actually important characters in their movies.

Yep... Star Wars doesn't need big name actors... May want 'em pretty hard, though.

 

Personally, I would've loved to have seen Samuel play a more developed and passionate version of Darth Maul, possibly with Ray Park helping him with the stuntwork. I would've had someone like Morgan Freeman play Mace Windu.

Sam Jackson in Star Wars playing a monk has to go down as one of the biggest examples of miscasting in cinema history. I don't care what anyone says, that is the truth.

 

That is actually a very interesting idea. I always thought Maul was a wasted opportunity and that he should've been the PT's equivalent of Vader but it never occured to me to switch casting around like that. Could've been very cool.

Yeah, with hindsight and all that. I'm a huge fan of Sam Jackson, and I can honestly say I winced every time I saw him in the prequels. The ONLY role I could possibly see suiting him in a SW film is that of a Bounty Hunter. He'd be sick playing Cad Bane in an origins film about Boba Fett. Never gonna happen though.
