ST If Luke was Rey in ANH Rewrite

A big reason why people think that Rey is overpowered might be that this movie is closer to Luke while her skills are better explained with Anakin's development.
Also Anakin was only one force user among many before most Jedi were killed, that prevented him from looking too overpowered as every movie of the prequels shows several Jedi.

 

People still trying to tear down OT/PT to make their points. The entire point of the OP is to show how ridiculous Reys actions are, had Luke performed all the same feats in ANH. That movie would have bombed and Star Wars would have never gotten a sequel.

Also it really didn't fit in one of the larger threads.

 

I kinda sorta agree with the main thrust of the original post, but at times it pushes it's case too far. For example, it makes perfect sense for Rey and Chewie to go to Luke at the end of the movie. Chewie may not have been involved recently in the resistance, but he is obviously well respected by its leaders. He can be trusted to deliver whatever message needs to be delivered. And if Rey is Luke's daughter then its obvious why she gets to see him.

You only forgot a few small things:

*The opening crawl says: "Yoda has vanished.....Bail Organa is desperate to find his old friend"
*The movie ends: "R2 was able to download some old data from the Death Star and it has a map to an old dark side cave.
*Luke enters the Falcon with Chewie and they fly to a swamp planet.
*Luke walks the last part alone and finds a small empty hut.
*Luke walks some more steps and finds a small hooded figure watching a strange stone. The figure turns around and is green.
*Luke and Yoda stare at each other emotionally for a long time....cut to credits.

 

Also, Luke isn't a whiny tool and Late 70s Mark Hamill doesn't sell the role nearly as well.

 

When you first meet Han, he's a fantastic pilot; an amazing marksman who can more than take care of himself in a fight; a mechanical whizz; can speak several languages and had (in ANH) an uncanny knack of getting himself out of trouble. The only thing he didn't have was the Force. Yet we accepted it straight away.

When you're forced to survive in Rey's circumstances, learning how to do the things she could do made perfect sense and is comparable with certain other characters. She had no-one supporting her. But wait.... then there's Anakin! At 10 years of age he was a brilliant podracer, mechanical whizz, single-handedly constructed a protocol droid; was somehow able to pilot a fighter craft and played a key role in defeating the TF; can speak Huttese, and what a surprise, can use the Force intuitively. No-one seems to bat an eye-lid at these seemingly superhumanly effective characters.

On top of that, we don't even know Rey's backstory yet and the context of who and what she is. Further, the movie makes it pretty clear that TFA is about the Force awakening in her and literally transforming her. What we are getting is refreshingly different from Luke- something I have absolutely no problem with.

 

Lucas explained Anakin's skills in the movie.

 

So what you'd really like is to take a half hour to the first act for Rey to pull out her resume and drop exposition for how she can do whatever she can do?

Because that sounds absolutely godawful.
