    The Republican primaries are a form of treibjagd. "Candidates" like Donald Trump are just beaters who make a lot of noise in the woods, driving the voters in the direction of Jeb Bush, who's waiting to pick them off as soon as they come out in the open.

    he won't win . there's 10 or 20% that are rabid and think they represent the party , then they're shocked when a Romney or a Dole or someone like that ends up as the nominee.

    Trump running is a convenient way to make other candidates-- those of both parties, but Republicans especially-- look sane in comparison.

    then they go around for years saying 'we made a mistake nominating so and so', and it's like no you were the idiots chasing Santorum, Gingrich and Cain.
    Or they say 'we lose when we nominate a Romney a McCain or a Dole' yeah who was running against those guys? Buchanan, Steve Forbes, etc.

    I think Trump honestly just needed another marketing push for his brand, he had been teasing running for president ever since, what, the 80s or 90s whenever he was trying to shill a book? He needed to run at least once to keep his brand awareness up. Unfortunately, he shot himself and his brand in the foot on, like, the first day he announced he was officially running by being Donald Trump who says crazy things.
