    Besides pinch yourself of course?

The odds we'll see another Xwing simulation anytime soon are 1:100 but just for the sake of dreaming, what would you add or change in the simulation games for the next incarnation of (nearly) everyones favorite series of all?

I figure Xwing you fight for the rebels, Tie fighter for the imperials, Alliance is for your family so 4 should be for.... you. Be a mercenary, and fight for whatever side you want, when you want to, and on top of that build up a vast armada of ships, and decide how much you want to risk etc. Kinda like the best parts of the original Mechwarrior with the Xwing series style.
Also it'd be cool to be able to design your base up with your fleet. Add repair stations and casinos and attract the scum of the galaxy (as their tourism fills your vaults to add to your fleet of ships of course). I know that galaxies is supposed to incorporate some of this but not on this scale.

    What's your wish list?

Cut back on the missile usage. Having a new missile locked onto my ship every few seconds and subsequently having to deal with it totally ruined XvT for me. It got to the point where I simply refused to use anything without a cloaking device.

....ooh i like the idea of building up your own little ragtag squadron, ala Mechwarrior..

A Privateer-style game in the SW universe would be pretty cool...

My little contribution would be the ability to purchase and upgrade droids that would assist with your ship.. Better yet, you'd have to make sure that the members of your squadron were all outfitted with Droids of some sort, as well...

    Oh, the possibilities...

    • Better physics. I want to punch a hole through the bridge of a Star Destroyer and fly right through it. I want to use inertia to my advantage, I-War style.

    • Starship control. I don't want to have to hack XWA every time I want to fly a Corellian Gunship.

    • Dynamic storyline. If I destroy a Star Destroyer in one mission, it shouldn't appear in the next.

    • Greater range of ships. The ones in XWA are cool, but they're all from the one time period. The EU and the new movies have vastly expanded the number of ships available in the Star Wars universe, and I want a game in which I can use just about any of them.

It's a demanding wish list, but include all of that and I'd have my dream game.

Here's few thoughts (I like also those HawkNC posted):

    - When you get some high rank like General, you could actually plan the missions.

    - No more ships with 1% of hull integrity left that still can operate as well as ship with 100%.

    - One more thing about dynamic storyline: this time losing a transport with bunch of important people on it wouldn't mean automatically failure of the mission (and playing it again and again for next 5 hours). Things should just get harder for your side of conflict.

    - And overall what I want is good SW spacesimulation, not another spaceshooting game.

I'd like to have more playable ships, better AI, a more dynamic campaign (not just screw up one mission the campaign doesn't advance), and a less cluttered interface...

Tod: at least if you shoot out certain parts of a ship in XWA, they stop working, i.e. shoot the engines and the ship stops, shoot the shield gens and the shields go down. XWA started to go the right way to making space combat sims really good, but there's so much more you can do with it.

for me it would be like this:

    1. Extreamly more ships, thats what is cool about XWA is how many ships it has, now add the other thousands of ships possible and make it a real universe.

    2. Graphics, XWA was good but is dated now, photo realism on the ships is the way to go, especially on MonCals

    3. Dynamic Story, have one mission effect the next, if i destroy said Star Destroyer in one mission dont have it play a key role in the next

    4. Squadrons, give your squadrons actual names, and use actual squadron nubers rather then half a squad max

    5. Better voice acting, common the DS2 assault in XWA was horrid

Basically, it seems people want a combination of X-Wing and Wing Commander.

Personally, I'd like a new TIE Fighter type storyline. Maybe get to join the 181st!
Either that or set it in the NJO time period for the story.

I think it would work better though, if not a Star Wars game, because of the limitations of what can be done with the ships to remain loyal to the movies. I think the combat in Wing Commander: Prophecy was probably the best combination of space sim and space shooter I've played so far. Part of it worked because the abilities of the ships were designed to make the game better. One of the main advantages of ships in WC:p (& other WC games) to XWA, IMO, was the afterburner.

Go back to allowing the usage of the keyboard and mouse instead of the joystick. I got the first release of Xwing and of Tie-Fighter and you could do that. I bought the collectors edition with both of them in it a year or two ago because I lost my disks for the old version and lo and behold you have to have a joystick. I HATE JOYSTICKS!

Since they've done every possible rebel vs imperial type scenario as far as general game themes go, they should go ahead and move into NJO territory- fly as rebel or imperial craft against the Vong. The additions of stutter fire, shadow bomb techniques, etc would keep things fresh instead of a rehash of XWA w/better graphics.

Have something where the POV hat will change the direction your ship is pointing, but it wont change the direction the ship is going. If you have seem Babylon 5, watch the fighters attack, and you will see them rotate around while still going in a strait line as they pass a big ship while shooting at it. Something like that would be cool and more realistic.

And I like the idea of having sort of a merc thing going and you build up your own little army. Have it where you capture a ship, you can take it for yourself. Oh, that would be cool.

If they made you a privateer, smuggler or mercenary, then they could come with with new ship designs and make the game more interesting.

    X-wing: Privateer...now that'd be a cool game. ;)

EnforcerSG: play I-War (Independence War), they use the inertia system that you're talking about. That would be pretty awesome though, I've been wanting that for some time. I actually designed a fighter that uses inertia in the way you're talking about. Now if only I could mod XWA to use it... [face_mischief]

I could see it where for the first half or third of the game, you use stock fighters, then you get your hands on an experemental fighter that has the advanced inerta system. Just to see the transition, and to sort of fit it into the story.

Hmm, can we write to Lucasarts to make this thing?

B5 Starfury's are also much different in design than Star Wars fighter craft. B5 also tends to follow a more realistic physics in space combat/flight as well.

very true. the x-wing's physics have always been simple at best. i still love the Wing Commander gyroscope physics, for me they just seemed to be most realistic.

i think a kind of privateer type game would be awesome. kind of like and RPG/sim game. s Diablo II for the X-Wing series. you could start as rebel, imperial, or freelance and go from there. start with a crappy ship, make some money and buy a new one. or lets say you are a smuggeler and you have a bad run in with the Imps and that compeles you to go to the rebellion. the possibilities are endless

BTW, dont you wish they would make that B5 sim once and for all?

Here's a list of what they should include in the next X-Wing series:

    - Better Campaigns where you can play as the empire, rebels, republic, confederation, vong, etc (similar to Battlegrounds) and the timeline should extend from the prequals till the NJO or select which timeframe you want to play in as a option.

    - Scenario Editor to make new missions and new crafts

    - Upgraded graphic that are correct to the films (like XWAU versions) instead of low quality version (like the default x-wing in XWA which is a shocker).

    - more ship counts in the missions to recreate massive battles (instead of a limit of 90 something like in XWA)

    - buy upgrades for your ship (like in podracer of find them like in Rogue Squadron/Leader)

    - Change the paint jobs on your ship with custom designs/colours for you flight groups

    - better voice acting for a change that gives more atmosphere and signifigants to critical elements of the missions

    - Character selection (eg. fly as Luke, Wedge, Han, Fett, Kenobi(in Ep2 during clone wars missions), etc

    - Accurate damage and explosions, such as if you concentrate fire on the connection between the bridge and the main hull (the neck part) on the star destroyer, it snaps off leaving the craft imobilised.

    - maybe some Planet missions in a speeder or how you hold of Imperial ground forces while transports escapes then escort it up throught the atmosphere then till lightspeed in the one mission.

    - walk around as your pilot through your base to the pilot lounge for records or briefing room for mission select, to weapons bay to hanger , etc. like in Rogue Leader how you select your craft but bigger and come across Non playable characters that gives you hints and the latest news on the battles and current situations to give a more indepth feel of the story.

Planetside missions and customisable craft would be very cool, I'd love to see them. I'm not so sure about playing as specific characters though, I've always been an advocate of leaving the movies alone and doing something completely different. Yes, I'm an EU fan. :p
