You know, the thing I really don't get about this whole line of discussion is the idea of high school as this terrible, traumatizing experience that leaves "nerds" scarred and bitter for the rest of their lives. I, personally, am a "shy, awkward guy" who was turned down almost every time I asked someone on a date in high school or afterward, and you know what? It's not that horrible an experience. Maybe it's a generational thing - maybe high school used to be much worse for nerds - but I just don't understand how anything like that is supposed to wind up leaving these people hating and fearing all women forever afterward. It's just bizarre.

If only my high school self only knew that high school didn't matter after high school.

High school was absolute hell for me. I graduated in 1999, still long before schools began to implement a zero-tolerance policy. However, the bulk of the bullying that I noticed and received had little to do with my interests. Being a "nerd" wasn't that big of a deal. However, if you didn't dress the same as everyone else and you didn't shop at specialty clothing stores, if you weren't as attractive as everyone else, if you acted even the slightest bit different from everyone else, and if you had some type of disability that wasn't physical, then you were a target for bullying.

Even then, the "popular kids" in my school would target kids with physical disabilities. I had a friend with cerebral palsy who walked with a cane, and other kids were relentless toward him. It didn't help that he was new to the school, either. He left after a few months.

A follow up on this post - I have now seen the movie and I found it good with non of the non-WHM:s being stereotypical. Also the main villain was a woman but I don’t think it passed the bechdeltest

Maybe that 1138 article had more impact than we thought? Willow Wilson is now Marvel exclusive too.

I saw that picture and went into a blind Twitter frenzy for like an hour. Luckily work is slow today.

Gawd UK retail. Your plan wording. Gah.

"UK Product Expectations: ALL Product Categories"
"Create the biggest Star Wars multi-channel, multi-category retail programmes ever."

Don't think I don't see "world domination" stuck in there. It's down there in the fine print, isn't it? You'll get your old empire back one way or another.

Fittingly enough we really only did have an Empire because of Merchant Adventures.

Are you just talking about the "Boys 5 to 12" thing, or is there something else I missed in that over-worded mess?

    Basically that.

And the fact that the second priority is "parents", meaning they're more likely to make a commercial targeted at mothers than girls themselves.

    Yes.

Despite that, it's supposedly "cross-generational".

You know, what with Agent Carter being helmed by women, I just kind of assumed that of course the Princess Leia comic would have a female writer. Because, you know, it would be kind of insane to give that book to a guy. Silly me.

Well, desiring more women creators doesn't mean you have to ignore the good men--and Waid is one of them.
