The last time I went to Target this happened.

 

Is there a Toryn Farr black figure?

 

Well it's right there in the picture, so maybe.

 

I lack the keen eye for discerning black series figures from non-black series figures.

But why does Toryn Farr have a black series figure? And yet Sabine has to win a vote to get one?

 

The Toryn one is 3.5"; the poll is for the fancy-pants 6" ones. Which I didn't know either until a few days ago.

ETA: oh, and meanwhile, they cast Elektra and she's actually not white.

 

She was in GI Joe Retaliation, which was a bad movie with a lot of good actors in it, so I won't hold it against her. She wasn't bad in it, though, played Snake-Eyes' apprentice Jinx.

 

I enjoyed Retaliation, personally. A lot more than ROC (though I think Duke was wasted in the 2nd movie).

 

By what standard? By most European standard so would I call her white, even if with a mild grey complexion

 

Wasn't it Martin who told to go ahead and make the switch? From what I've heard he is pretty involved with the show and the changes. That said, I found the last two ASoIaF books both dull and trying to hard to gross me out.

 

Wikipedia says she's half-Cambodian, so there's that.

I was joking with the "mild grey complexion" part but going by most pictures I have seen of her so do she look like many pictures South-European to look like, which is good I guess since Electra is Greece.

 

Greece has had a lot of migration going through that area going back millennia. So I'd imagine that there are Greeks of Asian descent. Plus, they could also just say that she's half-Greek and half-Asian. Her father was a diplomat in the comics and traveled around a lot. So just say that he met Elektra's mother while he was stationed in Cambodia or something, it's not that hard. I can just picture the casting process:

Marvel exec: "So, who should we cast as Elektra in the new season of DD?"

DD showrunners: "What about the woman who played Jinx in GI Joe 2?"

Marvel exec: "Oh, what makes you say that?"

DD showrunners: "Well she's a pretty experienced actress, albeit mostly in her native France, she has a black belt in Karate in real life and has proven that she can handle action scenes, she's studied at an acting school, and she's already played a dark-haired, dual-blade wielding ninja dressed in a red costume recently. Oh and she also has a law degree to."

Marvel exec: "Wow, when you put it like that, it does make a lot of sense. Ok lets give her a call at least."

 

Good point and I am not trying to say that they should not use her.

My original criticism, before I found out that she was half-Cambodian, come from that I thought that CooperTFN was referring to her looks as non-white since I have seen some people referring to Greeks as non-whites and on most pics I have seen of her so do she look like a South-European.

At this point anything less white than Jennifer Garner is a win.

Honestly from what I've heard from various people, what constitutes "White and non-White" is highly subjective. How it's looked at in the US for example is NOT the same as how it's looked at in other parts of the world.

So of the six current canonical Moffs, two are female, 3 are male, and one is of unknown gender.

 

When Americans are making American movies for American audiences, I think the way it's looked at in the US is the most relevant. I don't think it's all that subjective in the US, especially in the ways it matters most.
