GrandAdmiralJello You left out a part of that quote. Nice try. You mean Star Wars never got "East Asian" before the PT?

Does nice try mean you're not going to respond substantively to my argument? Does it mean you're going to use a red herring to distract from the argument?

Lucas based the Jedi on Asian religious traditions. All Jedi should be Asians.

    Agree or disagree?

P.S. "There was an Asian guy in ROTJ" is non-responsive to this question, in case you were going to go there. :)

They were also based off of Arthurian legends, the Knights Templar and films like The Adventures of Robin Hood and the Searchers. There isn't only Kurosawa's influence exclusively when you talk about the Jedi Knights. So, I can agree but only partially.

I wasn't. I was referring more to Yoda and his philosophies. Yoda is where the Taoist/Buddhist influences are more prevalent.

Read them in the context of when they were published? Include women and POC in film/TV adaptations?

Apparently Lucas originally wanted Toshiro Mifune to play Obi Wan in ANH (which would have been interesting to see). But Mifune declined.

I watch Fellowship as a meeting of disparate frat houses. It's a very easy interpretation.

I hope this isn't too political for the thread, but it does a good job of explaining why representation matters in the context of one of the United States' most polarizing figures.

To find Hillary Clinton likable, we must learn to view women as complex beings

For years and years Hillary's original sin with me was that she carpetbagged my home state rather than be the senator from Arkansas, for what I saw even then as naked presidential ambitions. What I finally came to terms with this year wasn't that that was incorrect--it's that it's no worse than anything any number of men would do or have done for the same reasons. Her real crime was not being exceptional.

Another big shift in my perception came when I saw her favorability numbers going back 25 years--we like her just fine when she's actually doing a given job, but we hate her when she asks for it. It's weird because it's sort of respectful in a backwards way; it's like we expect her to be better than the average man and get mad at her when she's not.

Like how Obama couldn't just be an average black politician and get elected president--he had to be amazing.

There's no greater smack in the face about men ruling this country than going in the Hall of Presidents.
