This makes sense. It's way too tall to be a Bothan.

The whole "this alien who looks very similar to another type of alien is actually the same species/part of a subspecies" thing is a two-edged sword. On the one hand, if you have a species whose entire existence can be summed up with one sentence on Wookieepedia, it helps to connect it to an alien race with some actual lore and world building behind it. On the other hand, sometimes the connection seems too weak, and it just makes the galaxy seem smaller. For example, does Constable Zuvio really have to be the same species as that bounty hunter from Clone Wars just because they have the same hat? And the Two-Tubes are said to be related to Kel Dor and Gand despite looking like neither. Are we supposed to believe all aliens who breathe something besides oxygen are related to each other?

Side note: In addition to the whole "subspecies/mutant" justification, I like to imagine that shady plastic surgeons make drastic alterations to the faces of aliens who don't wish to be identified.

Again, though, on the subject of diversity within a species.

Man, Star Wars would mess that up so badly.

I've always disliked how Bothans are usually portrayed because they seem like they'd be terrible spies.

Yeah what Mothma didn't mention in the briefing was how easy stealing those plans was supposed to be.

They got the plans fine; half of them were sucked into a black hole on the way back.

Why is it that every time an alien has a long face it must be a Bothan. I mean even in Legends what a Bothan looks like is debatable

I'm pretty sure half the reason why the Bothan question is so common with new aliens is that the EU Bothans looked like six different species in the first place.

Is it too late to revive my "Diego Luna stars as Manuel Bothans in Rogue One" joke

Real talk it would have actually made sense for there to be like one Bothan in R1.

Sidenote: we're getting a casino planet in Episode VIII and still no sign of Billy Dee Williams so is this gonna happen at all or nah?

Something pretty cool that I noticed in the Vanity Fair article --- in The Last Jedi, Kelly Marie Tran, who's Vietnamese-American, has an on-screen sister played by Vietnamese actress Veronica Ngo. I don't know if I can articulate this properly, but I like that they didn't cast two people from differing East Asian backgrounds under a kind of "Eh, close enough" mentality. Even though this takes place in a fictional galaxy where there's no such thing as being Vietnamese, or Korean, or Japanese, or what have you, and they could have gotten away with it without raising too many eyebrows. I think that's really cool.

That feels a bit doublestandard since people don't seem to care if people whose background are from completely different European countries play biological kin.

Do we all look the same to you people?[face_not_talking]

I actually wondered about that for a second--I didn't know Tran's heritage offhand.

    DO NOT. REMIND ME.

Yeah, I find it hard to imagine no one thought to include Lando in a casino planet scene or even worse they thought of it and said nah. Even if its just as brief a cameo as the Ponda Baba one in RO.

Otherwise I really like the look of the folks at the casino planet

I should note that it's a casino planet for the super wealthy -- who's to say Lando would even be allowed in? He was the administrator of some Podunk mining colony. :p
