Despite never having read it, I'm convinced that Skippy the Jedi Droid is a work of profound genius and should be 100% canon.

Like Spices bought from my friendly neighbourhood pykes.
I haven't read 90% of the post-ROTJ eu because the endless parade of characters and previously occured events that happened in a book I couldnt find in a charity shop confused me.

I take it that you have the same problem with Maw in Dark Forces II

Maw is different because he had aid immediately available.

Just wanted to tell you that I loved this post.

I have some more "typical" views, but just like Cushy, I am annoyed by hype and I need to connect to things in order to appreciate them.

That is actually precisely how I felt. If I don't connect to what I'm taking in I ain't stayin' with it. :p I find that most popular things are only fads anyway and I really don't care about those. Am debating whether to re-try Stormlight Archive or Wheel of Time. Couldn't get into either of those and I'm sick of war being the main plot mover anyhow. It's so dull because hardly ever is there any realism thus very few stories have characters I can truly invest in in this type.

I have never played more of Dark Forces II than the demo level I picked up...somewhere (PC Gamer), but because it is a pre-Call of Duty shooter I assume it is one of the finest games to ever emerge from Lucasarts.

Maw's little more than a flunky and he not only survives being cut in half but also learns how to fly. If one can accept that he survives because "immediate assistance" then one should be able to accept that Maul survives because "crazy badass Dark Lord of the Sith". The only bad thing about Maul's survival, in my eyes, was that they didn't commit to it during the movies, where it would have actually been awesome.

Dooku reporting to Maul at the end of AotC (when everyone is expecting Sidious) would have been an incredible moment in the Saga. Squandered. Urgh.

I just can't stand Lucas randomly deciding to have Maul survive ten years later, because that ship already sailed during the PT.

I just believe there is a massive difference between being bisected with aid immediately available, and being bisected and falling down a bottomless shaft without any aid.

If it was addressed right before AOTC came out, I might be more open-minded to it but by 2011? Nope.

You're actually right. The first one features the father who does not mind if his daughter dies, the seventh features walking a sentient around on a leash and it implies that all creative people are crazy, sort of. Ironically, the latter turned me into a writer.
