ST Ilco Munica, the villager at the beginning...

He's the Abednedo at Lor San Tekka's village. That part kills me when the troopers are beating him up and he's screaming and grunting for help. It really shows how brutal the First Order is right from the beginning. He seems like a really nice creature.

I also like that his name is a Beastie Boy reference....

Haha...Glad to see it wasn't just me. I felt bad for that thing; he was terrified.

 

His performance was oscar worthy!!

 

That was great work on his face. I don't know whether it was animatronics or CGI, but he truly looked terrified. It was quite gut wrenching.

I don't recall another scene in any Star Wars movie that shows such pain and fear on an alien's face.

If you think about it, there is so much mass peripheral death in SW that is rarely accounted for. Even with the "bad guys", most of these sorts are just specialists that are trying to make a living; not like there's just "bwahaha" evil everywhere in the ranks. It was kind of...umm...refreshing?...to experience this scene - and the one on Hosnian Prime - to feel something outside the box of the main characters.

But yes, I agree with others earlier... the look on this guy's face is really believable. It's part of what makes the Jakku village scene almost hard to watch.

 

To say nothing of his poor mother, Woht'ja Woht'ja Woht'ja Wahnt.

 

I don't know. I'm going to head canon that he was actually only glanced by a blaster shot during the Jakku execution, and played dead among the other villagers (incredibly this sort of stuff has happened in real life). He then makes his way back to the resistance by bumping into Poe Dameron when Poe is briefly looking for bb8 after he wakes up from the tie crash. He gets a quick crash course in X wing piloting from the best goddamn pilot in the resistance, and gets revenge on the FO during the Starkiller X-wing assault. Ello Asty, his new comrade, tragically dies in the assault of course, but this dude survives! He's the "continuity error" Abednedo during the crowd scene. Yes he is goddammit!!!

I just had a huge revelation related to Ilco. There is apparently a deleted scene on the Blu Ray entitled "Finn and the Villager". I think Finn was the trooper roughing up Ilco and Phasma ordered him to kill Ilco and that's when Finn decided that he couldn't do it. That's why Ilco was so expressive and well done because he was going to be a bigger part of the story.

 

Maybe, but I don't think Finn could do ANY of it after he got his friend's blood on his helmet; that was the point where his conscience seemed to click on.

But I want to say that scene was before his friend died....or if it wasn't perhaps it was supposed to be. Like I said it was deleted.

Maybe his Jedi cousin Braass'mon Kee will avenge him, or his nephew Sa'bo Tage, or even his daughter, Heyla Dies?

 

Apparently there was once an Abednedo Jedi Master named Pol-Riev-Ir.

 

It was definitely a standout moment in terms of portraying the fear, panic, and chaos that was taking place at the hands of the First Order. Especially after it when you immediately see the flame throwing Stormtrooper just start torching things.

Although, I couldn't help but feel a sense of political commentary underneath that sequence. An armed to the teeth and highly trained military force violently overtaking a small desert town that seems to have little to do with the big picture.

Remind anybody of anything? Or was that just me?

Because then also consider the obvious reluctance to participate in the slaughter from our soon to be protagonist.
