Give her up because she doesn't like the EU? What? Are you people insane?

What you *should* have done was, as soon as you discovered she was a purist, change the subject like nobodies business. Star Wars isn't important enough to lose a girl over.

I think you realize this, but when it comes to real life, Star Wars really doesn't matter.

When I suggested he give her up, it wasn't because she didn't like the EU. It was because she reacted so strongly to something as silly as a piece of fiction.

Yeah, that's what I mean too. She's not worth it if she's that shallow. But if she's willing to talk it out, by all means stay with her.

I suggest a new strategy, Artoo.

    Let the woman win. :p

(Well, you know the saying...Hell hath no fury, and so on ;) )

    Nichos: agreed.

But if they're starting to work it out, then great. Keep us updated JFT. :)

    JFT.
In my experience, girls who like science fiction are ugly anyway.

    Uh, except my girlfiend.

    She's beautiful.

Seriously though, a person who likes the Star Wars movies but doesn't read the books comes across as only one thing: friggin' lazy, and friggin' illiterate. Not to spit on your newfound love, of course.

Even more seriously. Stop calling her for a while. Girls don't like repeat phone calls - to you it's romantic dedication - to her it's creepy.

I know this is a cliche, but girls like you the less you give a $#1+ about them. Ignore her next time you see her.

DARKAURUM, that's completely ridiculous. She may just not like the EU. So what?

Coota-it wasn't because she didn't like the EU-we were only teasing by saying it would never work. No, it was the reaction-when she found out he did, she flipped out. That's all.

    Good luck, JFT!

But then, when I'm having a visit from Mlle. Becker, I've been known to flip out because there are no potato chips in the house.

Well, its been a while since we heard from JFT. Maybe she decided that it wasn't worth risking a relationship over Star Wars.

BTW, I resurrected your thread in the JCC.

Darkaurum: Uh, it's possible that someone who doesn't read the books has read some of them and just doesn't like them. Just because you don't like a book, doesn't mean you're illiterate, or lazy. I didn't like "The Pathfinder" and stopped reading it halfway through because James Fennimore Cooper had changed Nathaniel Bumpo's character so much from "The Last of the Mohicans" and "The Deerslayer." I didn't see the sense in this, as "The Pathfinder" takes place less than a year after "Last of the Mohicans." I went on to read "The Pioneers" and "The Prarie," but I just didn't like "The Pathfinder."

It doesn't mean I'm illiterate, just that I didn't like the book, and preferred to read the other books Cooper wrote. I might come back to it someday, but I have other books on my list to read.

    ouch!

i can't really say anymore because i've never really liked anyone(Im 13!) and have never been in your position.

Good luck tho...I don't think she's worth it if something as trivial as this puts her off dating you. Did you find out that she liked SW after you two started going out?
Then there must be something in common between you two. Good luck though...

Im a Red Sox Fan and I agree with NewYork_Jedi's comparison w/ the Yankee and Red Sox fans.

    Poor JFT!

I went out with a Trekkie Purist for a while... was v. interesting. Broke up eventually, but not over trek vs. wars. Or even EU vs. purist.

Here's wishing you the best of luck, JFT!

    ROTFLMAO! [face_laugh]

I'd point my finger and laugh at you for being such a huge geek, but being here on an Internet board dedicated to Star Wars probably doesn't make me much better. [face_blush]

Sorry pal. If something as trivial as that broke you two up, then she probably ain't worth it anyways.

Why don't I buy you something to drink at one of the pubs here?

Go for her! If that's the only thing you two disagree about then heck! You've got it made!

Don't let go of something that could potentially be really great.
