Do you think Vader had always planned on taking over cloud city, and what do you think Vader would have done with the Princess and Chewie? I think he would return chewie as a slave and have the princess killed after her stunts pulled on the first Death Star, maybe even realize C-3PO was the driod being carried.

He probably planned on taking over Cloud City from the minute he got there, but I doubt that it was a big item on his agenda before that.

I think that Vader never intended on the deal he initially agreed on with Lando. Just to give up Leia and Chewie is not in his best interests. He just slowly creeped his way in and took hold of the situation when it best suited him. Maybe kinda like how Palpatine eventually became Emperor. He took controll at just the right time so there would be many who supported him. It just kinda backfired on Vader though.

Yes, altering the deal had always been apart of the plan. Otherwise I don't think Lando would have gone along with it in the first place.

Chewbacca and Leia probably would have been taken into Imperial custody and executed or imprisoned, C-3P0 most likley would have been scraped without second-thought.

I dunno in that scenario I imagine C3PO walking around the hallways, crying for an eternity because he has no owner.

EsB was Vader at his worst.....so yeah he was just plotting and scheaming throughout that film.

Like someone else mentioned he likely just told Lando what needed to be said at the moment to get him to go along with things.

Once he got what he wanted he showed his true nature and started doing as he pleased again.

What can I say? He (Vader) learned from the best (Palpatine)

As for C-3PO. I would imagine he would get a memory wipe and serve in some aspect of the Imperial system.

And I don't think Vader had any intention of immediate control of Cloud City. Maybe in a couple months he would come back and reward Bespin for its service to the Empire by taking it over. But all Vader was concerned about was getting Luke, even if he did have to hold off on presenting this insignificant little jewel to the Empire.

"This reminds me of Bespin. I scouted it once for possible Imperial takeover, but it was too small." ~ Kasan Moore.

I think Vader would have killed Leia after the Death Star fiasco, maybe even Chewie just because. I doubt he would have went to Cloud City had he not been following the Falcon, so he probably came up with that plan spur the moment.

I wonder if there's a possibility that Vader would have realized that Leia was his daughter if he spent a bit more time around her, so maybe when she was imprisoned, he would try to turn her to the darkside.

They did. Remember Lando's Cloud City Police held up the Stormies trying to escort Leia and Chewie to Vader's ship? It's almost exactly like the Naboo Royal Security Force fighting the droids.

OMG! I just noticed that parallell.

I think he sensed the Force for the first time in Princess Leia... there is a meaningful look between the two of them before Han is frozen in carbonite and is trying to convince Chewie to take care of her. It is right after the carbonition process that Vader decides to take Leia back with him. Perhaps he wanted her as a back up plan the way Yoda and Obiwan did.

Good point. It explains why he would want Leia, but why Chewie?

Could be just for the sake of it. or the fact that Chewie is a rebel. And for Vader, rebels need to be captured and taught a lesson.

Used as bait to get Luke should he escape, but once Luke is turned or destroyed, Chewie and Leia would be executed.

I think Vader was going use Leia and Chewie as leverage to control Luke. If he was successful in capturing Luke, he wanted them to join together to destroy the Emperor. He could have used Leia and Chewie as way to convince Luke in joining him.

Darth Vader had no use for Cloud City. He was just using it to capture the Falcon. As for Leia and Chewie, he would've probably sold them to the highest bidder. With the Princess of Alderaan being involved, I'd say there would be many high bids.

Vader didn't care about Cloud City or Lando. He told Lando what he needed to to get the job done. Afterwards, when Lando informs his citizens that the Empire is taking over the city, he means it. He realises that it was Vader's plan to take over the city and take Leia and Chewie all along.

By the way, it's a great back and forth between Lando and Vader. One of the reasons why TESB is the best!

Empire is a classic for sure, however, wether it's the best is a completely different debate. ;)
