Yeah I don't like the September release date either. Why couldn't they shoot for a March or April release date? Or better yet, mid-August? I seriously hope it's better than COR.

    This one is definitely Conan-inspired...

Pretty much the same pose he was in at the end of Chronicles of Riddick.

Hey, you're right- never caught that before(probably because the end of COR is a different emotion (regret over loss) than Conan's (boredom).

Not a bad teaser (but I get the feeling this is just a teaser for the real teaser trailer- 22 seconds is too short for a theatrical teaser)- though it's harmed by having to listen to it 3 or 4 times to make out him saying "take these chains off me". The opening hand grab was a nice bit though.

So what is so remarkable about being able to see in the dark? I sort of vaguely got it in a prison and on whatever weird expeditionary force thing there was from the first movie, as other people couldn't be expected to compensate. But against a bunch of assassin and bounty hunters? Does humanity lose the ability to make night vision goggles in the future? Why exactly is this so insurmountable?

    Probably out of context dialogue.

I think it's a "when you can see in the dark as well as you can in light , everything, including fighting, is like second nature" kind of thing.

But that's just me, and not reading too much into a Vin Diesel movie.

Yeah, we don't know the context- their night vision equipmentmay have been stolen, lost or damaged by time that scene occurs- it's just there to convey to the general audience what Riddick's special ability is (well, not counting his Furyian energy deal, if they're sticking with the Director's Cut as canon).

Anyways, solid trailer- it feels like Pitch Black for sure (though perhaps a little too much- one might even argue its a half remake from the looks of it) but there's some sprinkling of COR elements in there (the Necromonger with the necro guns, "dogs" affinity for Riddick, etc). Though I'm surprised they didn't show Karl Urban at all, what with STar Trek being out and all. Maybe they're just trying to not spoiler that aspect of the story and stick to the basic "scenario hook" like PB's "stay in the light" and COR's "stay out of the light".

Still amazing and all kinds of awesome that this happening, after almost ten freaking years of waiting.

God I hope this is better than COR. Trailer looks very promising. I'm still iffy about the release date.

Just as an aside...comparing night-vision googles to just plain being able to see in the dark (at least currrently) is kinda like strapping some toilet paper rolls to your eyes. You can forget peripheral vision as well as not being able to look at anything slightly above or below your main line of sight without having to move your head.

I'd hope google technology improves in the future, but apparently it hasn't. :p

That's the thing that stuck out to me the most in this trailer. His comment that he's "been in situations like this plenty of times before" was entirely too on the nose about the direction of the series. Especially when he ended the last film as God Emperor of the Evilverse, or whatever that was.

So what happened to him being the king of the Universe? He was all in charge there at the end.

He's Riddick. Maybe he said, "nah, forget this *******, I'ma going back to what I do best". Which I guess would be badass fugitive with an ever-escalating price on his bald head.

Drinking game: Every time Riddick raises his shades and/or looks over his shoulder at the camera in badass fashion, take a drink.

From the descriptions we got awhile back, it looks like something happened during his reign (scroll up for the Conan-esque photo of him on the throne) and Lord Vaako (Karl Urban) takes over and exiles/strands Riddick on the planet he's on in this film and then places a large bounty on his head (thus the hunters converging on the planet to go after him, as we see in the trailer).

They just didn't show any of that plotline in the trailer.

I also wonder if they'll ultimately rebrand the movie's title on video like they did for Pitch Black. It'll be a tad awkward to have it called "The Chronicles of Riddick: Riddick", heh.

Still iffy on the release date, but it looks very promising nonetheless!
