Very cool. Even though its non-canon now, it reminds me that Pitch Black also had a motion comic prequel back when it came out.

Are you referring to DARK FURY or something else?

No, Dark Fury was a prequel to COR/bridge between PB/COR. There was a flash web comic prequel to PB that dealt with Riddick getting the shine to his eyes in a prison facility space station.

AFAIK, it's events were replaced by those depicted in Escape From Butcher Bay/ Assault on Dark Athena.

So I recently watched, Pitch Black, Dark Fury and Chronicles in anticipation of the new film and I am keen for more Riddick! I hadn't watched Chronicles since renting it when it first came out on DVD so it was good to re-immerse myself in the story.

So I wonder if Vin and Karl were able to get Katee to play D&D with them.

Doesnt Vin own a gaming store? Is that the one?

Apparently during downtime on the CoR set, Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, and Thandie Newton would play D&D. Oh yeah, Dame Judi Dench was the DM.

I have not seen Karl Urban in any of the trailer spots. Is he still in this?

Looks like a remake of Pitch Black with better effects. But I guess that's the whole point.

Yeah, he has some scenes already shot and, according to the info below, is shooting some further scenes shortly. He also appeared in the motion comic prequel linked to earlier.

Vin Diesel on the future of Riddick

They reveal that "...Riddick isn’t the planned second part of that trilogy. After Chronicles’ disappointing box office, they’e refined their plans but haven’t given up on Plan A completely

Director David Twohy discusses the story of the upcoming third film:

“At its core [Riddick] is a survival story about one man, and his only way to get off this planet is to call in the mercenaries for a ride. That said, we don’t turn our backs on the mythology that we planted in the last movie, and we are actually bringing Karl [Urban] back for a few days of filming to advance it and lay the groundwork for movie four. We’re concerned with paying off the loyal fans and think that if somebody doesn’t understand something the solution is to look at the other two movies and get up to speed. It does play in a gratifying way as a standalone movie, but there are threads that we continue to sew that we started in previous movies and will continue in future movies.”

And star Vin Diesel hints at where future Riddick movies could go:

“You’ve got to go to the Underverse. It’s expected, it’s something I firmly believe. You’ll have to go through the Underverse to get to Furya. So, those are the two further stories that are mapped out. The Underverse is a much more costly venture. We went this direction, trying to do an R-rated movie, which is cool and even more interesting because it’s so unexpected. But yes, you will be at the Underverse and you will be at Furya sooner or later.”"

Why don't they go to the Oververse instead?

Oh, also, I found that now-non-canon Pitch Black prequel motion comic, "Slam City".

I fear that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is going to be the only sci fi movie of 2013 to make any money.

It looks like it's going for super action like the 2nd flick rather than the more realistic action of the first. I guess they can't go back now, I just hope it's not as cartoonish over the top.

Most notable addition to the Director's Cut is a subplot involving Riddick having visions of another Furyan.

Also Riddick explodes. Thats a pretty good give away. ;)

If you are referring to the other Furyan as 'The Purifier' who walks out on to the 700 degree sun scorched planet then yes, otherwise no.

The visions are of a woman, though the connection to The Purifier is also made stronger.

Another interesting tidbit that came upon the news about the movie: to get the movie made, Vin actually leveraged his house. If the movie didn't get finished, he wouldn't have a home (though I'm sure, what with his Fast 6, 7, 8 & xXx3 paychecks, he wouldn't be hurting for long). Nice to see him so dedicated to the project, however.

I hope this one isn't stupidly cartoonish.
