There have been a few days where it gets to >42°C here which is like 110F and it's like standing in front of a hair dryer. I'm not build for the heat. It's awful.

I believe NC is not dissimilar?

The worst places I've been for heat are Asia. Taipei and Hong Kong stay around 100°F/38°C during the day, not much colder at night, with 90%+ humidity for 9mo of the year. Singapore does this all year round. OPPRESSIVE HEAT.

I just thought it was a frozen wasteland all year.

Based on what you and a few other Australians have said, we have very similar climates.

Average July temperature here is 91 degrees. We often have 100-plus days. And the humidity is evil.

Never been to Asia. One similar incident to the above was a trip to France in June in which it hit 32-33 C, and yeah, I felt warm, but my host family all acted like they were dying.

    "Pour moi c'est normale."

Oh yeah, that'll kill French people off. And in fact they have died from the heat waves. No airconditioning.

I found that in London when I was there. You'd go into a shop to escape the summer heat, and the shop is as hot or hotter than the street outside.

    Awful.

Asia's hotter and more humid, but with excess airconditioning. So your sunglasses/glasses fog up when you go back outside.

The OP would probably go without trousers there too.

The Tube when it is 30 degrees outside. LOL.

I'm glad we're not replicating our 'hottest city in the world' title from last year currently, very weird. I can't recall the last time 25mm of rain was forecast in January.

I think NC is a lot more humid than here...generally very dry heat. My fiancee is from Penang in Malaysia and I can't handle the humidity there.

    Except dp.

MarcusP2 - I was lucky to avoid the tube at peak hour, so I could stand at an open window and get some air circulating through. Britons do heat as Australians do cold.

    Not well.

That sounds like a lovely dream if I'm being honest. I'd never leave Texas, but maybe I should start spending my Januaries in Singapore.

With that level of humidity? My A/C died in Taipei and I couldnt' sleep without it. I ended up buying two fans until they replaced it.

Yeah, humidity doesn't bother me too much. I was in Puerto Rico, also pretty warm (though not hot hot) and humid a few summers ago and the A/C died in one of the bedrooms. My mom was panicking about getting it fixed, but I just ended up sleeping in there - and I still used a blanket at night.

I've no words for this. Well I do, but they're just "barking" and "mad" and largely bought out of my fear and mistrust of your motives.

It's a courtesy to your own perspiration; you wash one layer off so the other one doesn't have to compete for space.

Yup, we don't pay up for aircon, because we hardly ever need it.

I hear Summer's on a Wednesday this year.

Saudi Arabia and Qatar are tied for the hottest places I've been: 55C/130F. When you walk outside into that heat, it hits you like a hammer.

I kind of want to know what happened with the missing mother and the groceries. Did she ever make it back? We've been waiting two years for closure to this anecdote. Someone please make it happen.

Hey JP! Good to see a familiar name.

I was thinking about this thread a little more today during my yoga class, and realized JacktheRack said he was shirtless while posting on this forum, which means he gets all hot reading others' posts. Whatever melts your butter, I guess.
