    Yeah, Judaism is (theoretically) older than Zoroastrianism... and -- as Marcus points out -- Hinduism is the oldest still surviving religion. Hinduism has the best claims since we can point out actual texts that are that old, while we don't have any direct evidence of when Zoroaster supposedly lived (at or earlier than the time of Vedic texts) nor do we have any direct evidence of the Egyptian experience of Judaism outside of the OT (the oldest texts of which are probably the dead sea scrolls).

    Either way, I await the great mass conversion to one of the three.



    Also, I don't know how I missed this thread earlier, but ROFLMAO at the notion that the Roman aristocracy invented a religion that completely circumvented ancient civic power structures and taught people that the lowest slave was equal to the highest senator in the eyes of God. Yeah, sounds totally like a thing the Roman aristocracy would do -- kinda like how it was those CEOs who invented communism.

    Pretty much my take on it. Let's not make atheists, agnostics and scientific pantheists look as idiotic as those who claim that scientific peer-reviewed studies are a vast conspiracy against Christians.

    Atheism has been around far longer than any religion. Gods were invented by humans, so prior to that invention, everyone was atheist.

    Eh, that's not a very good line of reasoning I'm afraid. The persistence of a belief has nothing to do with whether it's true or not. If God exists then he'd be real even if nobody believed in him, and on the flip side if he doesn't exist then no amount of wishful thinking could will him into existence.
