I don't understand why she has only one wing. The shadow on the wall indicates her true nature and it's at a differant angle.

Apparently I'm sharing it with hundreds of people who have generated over 24,000 views.

 

I saw an exhibition of Frederick Church at the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. The painting of Niagara Falls is so real you can feel the mist coming off of it.




Look at the detail of those people at the bottom of the palm tree. This painting, if I recall correctly, is about 8' wide and 6' tall.

 

I also really admire the work of Caravaggio, however brutal it is. The realism comes from (I've heard) him buying corpses to flay them and see how their muscles work.
First is his painting of David and Goliath. Is that the artists head being held by David? What does it mean when you decapitate yourself?

 

I also love sculpture and installations. This one is called "The Awakening." Imagine a fifty foot man sleeping. He wakes up and stretches while in bed. Now submerge that image into the ground until his torso isn't visible any more. There you go.

 

I like that Fredric Edwin Church art.
