    VadersLaMent, that's literally what the entire Silmarillion is about :p

    Basically, they are the light of the world before Morgoth poisoned them, before the age of the sun and the moon. And become a symbol of the way the world used to be, and should be. A copy of the silver tree was made, and its descendant is the White Tree of Gondor you see burning in Return of the King... but it wasn't possible to recreate the Light of the Trees. Only the three Silmarils have the untainted Light inside them (even the light of the Sun and the Moon is tainted), and the Silmarils... well, their story is the Silmarillion.

    The only Tolkien book I have read is The Hobbit. Quick trivia, Gary Gygax liked Conan way more than LOTR.

    I have seen quite a few of them actually. A couple of them look like Iron maiden covers. I do like the Gondolin picture.
