Post your ideas why the OT is better than the PT. To start it off:

There are a lot of laugh-lines such as R2 getting spitted out by the monster on Dagobah. "You're lucky you don't taste
very good." or "How you get so big eating food of this kind?"

I don't think we need another OT vs. PT thread, but it's fine if you post things you like about the OT.

I enjoy the mystery and philosophy built up around the Force and the dynamic between the Jedi and the Sith.

Note: This is not in reference to the OT being better than the PT, but what I like most about the OT.

To me, it's simply the uplifting spirit. There's always hope, even in the darkest times. I still get chills and grin like an idiot when I hear the fantastic "The force will be with you...always." Even a serious thing like a character's death is quickly dealt with to not bring down the viewers' mood.

The Battles of Yavin and Endor are some of the best space combat scenes ever.

    I also love the storyline.

I agree with Cometgreen and E-V on this. I love the storyline and the "always hope" quality. The movies never grow old no matter how many times they are viewed. I still get chocked up on a lot of scenes through out the saga and I am old enough to have seen them in the theaters when they first came out.

The light snowfall on R2 as he is searching for Luke on Hoth before the shield doors are closed.

The visuals & sounds of the probe droids being dispached from the Star Destroyer.

Battle on Hoth & the battle on Endor.

Even in his OLD age, Yoda still knows how to kick butt. If R2 were anything other than an R2 unit then Yoda would have mopped the floor with him. Huzzah!

    1. An array of terrific characters such as Han Solo, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Princess Leia, C-3PO etc (Man, the list is endless!) I don't think there's ever been another film where so many characters have become household names. And then of course there's Darth Vader, smooth criminal. The coolest movie villian ever.

    2. The storyline. The OT is an epic fairy tale, the classic battle between good and evil aided by well developed characters and clear motives.

    3. Gripping space battles such as the Death Star trench run, the Millennium Falcon's journey through the asteroid field and the Battle of Endor.

    4. Classic star ship designs such as the X-Wings, TIE-Fighters and of course the Millennium Falcon.

    5. The whole mythology surrounding the Force, such as the Jedi, the dark side etc.

    6. With a couple of exceptions, the humour in the OT is actually funny. For example, 3PO's continuing banter with the likes of Han and R2 works wonderfully, as it's largely subtle and feels completely unforced. Compare this with his tragic slapstick role in AOTC.

It's easy to understand; it's cliched but with the twist that it's set in space. It doesn't try to have an impressive plot or characters, just tell a story.
