The purpose of this FAQ is to try to provide some straight answers based on what we know about the situation. However, at this stage (1/17), we of the Mod Squad and Old Folks Home donÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢t know a lot more than the rest of you do.

<a name="whymove"><b>Why do we have to move?</b></a>

Our contract with IGN is due to expire soon. Continuing to use IGN Boards was explored, but it was determined that that would cost upwards of $2000 per month. Given the high price tag, that was unfortunately unacceptable. So, it has become necessary to find a new board system.


<a name="whatloss"><b>Are we going to lose our usernames and posts?</b></a>

Hopefully not! Word from Philip Wise is that "our goal is to move every user and post over to the new platform." And if Mr. Wise is determined to move every user and post over, there's a good chance that we're going to move every user and post over. Having said that, we unfortunately cannot make an absolute guarantee in that respect; the only guarantee we can make is that we're going to try our best. WeÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢re certain of only one thing: we definitely wonÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢t be starting completely from scratch.

Possibly. The exact manner and fashion, and whether it will be done before or after the move, has yet to be decided.


<a name="whatsystem"><b>What board system will we be moving to?</b></a>

That depends on what our consultant, Astaran, decides. If there is a particular system you think is especially good, please feel free to mention it and tell us why you think we should be using it. Something that we can guarantee is that weÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢ll be using established software, rather than creating new software from scratch. More information on what system weÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢ll be using will hopefully be forthcoming by Wednesday.

Yes, we are. The only question is how weÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢re going to implement the current layout on the new boards.

Not knowing for a certainty what board system we'll have, we don't know what features we'll have.


<a name="icons"><b>Will we be able to upload our own icons?</b></a>

Probably not, and not due to physical restrictions: it's the opinion of the Mod Squad that control over icons should be kept by us to ensure a) a basic level of quality, b) that the icons don't get too large and cumbersome for 56k users to load, and c) that nothing profane or unacceptable to the TOS will be uploaded.

I thought the move was supposed to happen months ago.

 

So did I, so did everyone else.

 

WE'RE MOVING...in three years...

 

When the move eventually happens I'm sure everything will go smoothly. I'm not really worried about losing posts or other post/thread related matters, I would just like to see the move take place sometime.

Wow after all the build-up and discussion its not going to happen. I really don't mind though I like the boards the way they are here.
