PT In defense of the prequels

I figure that the dynamic between Palpatine & Vader is like that of "owner" and "pet" - Palpatine's affection is not that of equal to equal.

I'm reminded of an immortal line by Christopher Hitchens:

"Those who offer false consolation are false friends."

 

Because a) he's his mentor/teacher; b) Anakin is a uniquely challenging student; and c) Obi Wan is human -- that is, flawed. We've already seen that he's kind of a smartass in TPM (his "pathetic lifeform" remark, etc.), and he questions Qui Gon even though he certainly respects/loves him.

 

geez it's not a big thing for me, it's just one thing i said i wish there was a little more time of them not bickering.

 

I love the prequels because they made the Jedi actually look cool. In the OT Luke hardly knew what he was doing with his light saber. In ROTJ, half the time he was just whacking it really hard against Vader's until he managed to cut his hand off. And, although I'm not crazy about special effects, it really wasn't very awesome when Luke whacked people with his light saber and they just yelled and fell over instead of getting chopped up. We don't really understand how awesome Jedi are until the prequels. I like that it shows more planets and alien life as well.
I love the OT and it will forever be amazing, but it wouldn't be as great without the prequels.

 

I'd say that'd be based more on someone's opinion versus a fact. Though, I can agree. I'm more for the PT than the OT, but I still thought that the lightsaber duels in the OT were a bit more dramatic, while the PT duels were a bit more suspenseful IMO.

 

With the prequels it is 100% a matter of opinion.

Not saying you weren't, just that I saw 'we' in your statement, so I assumed that you pointed it out as a fact.

 

might be in the minority here but the Jedi in the PT were more....odd than I expected them to be

not saying that is bad, odd can be good and different, but they were certainly unorthodox folk.

Yeah, I agree. They weren't what I was expecting for some reason. I don't know.

 

Tell me about it. I've been accused of saying the OT was bad for simply displaying my opinion on a few things.
