I mean, honestly, has there ever been a less threatening 25 year old looking Nazi general than this guy? And why there a 25 year old looking innocent faced kid squawking orders at people twice his age? In a galaxy with space druids running around and planetary destructive weapons being built every other week, this was by far the least believable thing in any SW movie I've seen. Well, maybe aside from a 15-year old elected queen.

And what kind of an amateur outfit is the First Order with this guy leading the charge?

If you've been here since 2002, how comes you don't know to look for an existing Domnhall Gleeson thread?

 

I liked his performance honestly but he has his own thread for any criticism you have.

awww. I really liked Hux. His nazi-esque rally before firing the super laser was pretty creepy, as was his hystericaly screamed speech. I appreciated his eye-bulgingly over the top display.

he didn't have That much screen time. thought he was fine.

 

I propose we turn this thread into things we loved about Hux.
1) He proved that gingers have no souls.
2) He was a perfect casting choice.

He was pumped up giving that speech. I liked it.

 

A bit shouty a few times but not that bad, he acted other roles better. He was a last minuet decision though, wasn't he? He was also kind of handsome

 

Well I did think the speech was good considering how hard it must have been to try and do. I'd like to watch it again and really take in what he was saying before I judge it. I also think it's good to have officers that can stand up to force users based on politics/hierarchy with only one untouchable leader at the top so I'm glad that was used again considering he'll survive longer than Tarkin.

 

Did you guys notice how he was making such an effort to act all prim and proper and standing up straight while shouting some nonsense? He looked ridiculous, completely uncomfortable in the role. I didn't buy it for a second.

 

Disney really wanted to drive to you that this is all about young people now.

Yes, but very very poorly. It was like swing kids but 16 year old Ryan Gosling was playing Rommell. Twas silly.

 

He was so over the top. I loved him.

In all seriousness, that is what I got out of that casting. I agree.

 

Gleeson was fine, but I too wonder why in the world was such a young man elevated to such a high position.

Until I realized that if you take a look around, a lot of the FO is made up of younger people. People younger than we're use to seeing in the OT associated with the Empire. Which feels like a totally purposeful point. Kylo is trying to recapture a grandfather he didn't even know, another time, and the FO is possibly made up of younger adults who can connect to some romanticized idea of the Empire, vs the older ones, who lived the horror first hand.
