Saga In what order do you watch the saga? ... (I-VI)? ... or (IV-VI, then I-III)?

3. Episode VI (Stop right after Obiwan and Luke are talking on Dagobah which leads to a long flashback in which Obiwan is narrating.....

7. Episode VI (Continue where Luke meets Han/Leia and the rebels as they prepare to destroy the 2nd Death Star.

Watch 4, 5, and 6. Stop 6 right after Obi-Wan talks to Luke on Dagobah (at 48:17 on the 2004 DVD). Then watch 1, 2, and 3 as a flashback, showing us what Obi-Wan has just told Luke about. Then, return to 6 and watch the rest from the point where you stopped it before.

The method above gives the most "pure" form of a flashback, and it preserves the most surprises (it ruins the fewest surprises). I think that 5 revealing that Vader is Luke's father is a bigger shock than 3 showing us Anakin turn into Vader. Having said that, though, I agree with others who generally prefer 1-6, and I also agree that just getting to see Luke's reaction to the news from Vader in 5 is enough... if we as the audience allow ourselves to experience the whole thing through Luke's eyes.

It does work well... I've tried it. In general, though, my preference is 1-6.

Both Yoda and Obi-Wan have an air of terrible sadness and regret and we are aware that their wisdom came at a terrible cost. So, for me, I-VI is the best.

I love this!!! Really good post. In a way I dislike that its 6 different films instead of 3. I look forward to when the saga i retold.

Never again. Now granted he was only 4 1/2 at the time and did not get the concept of flashbacks, and another reason I introduced it that way is that I was not ready to show him ROTS. However, he got confused.

"That's Luke's Mommy and Daddy? Where's Luke?"
"Not born yet."
"But I just saw him in the other movie!"

Ha ha ha ha thats what you get man, but hey at least you are sharing it and your kid will share it with his kid and the circle will be complete. I just showed it to my girlfriend took me 2 weekends to watch. She is a huge LOTR fan but, had NEVER seen any Star Wars movies. I showed her episode 1 first as a tester/teaser to see if she would bite.....after all she is a girl. Which lead to questions about Spock & Yoda. Had to explain to her that Spock was in Star Trek and not Star Wars. I told her that eventually Yoda going to train the son of the Pod racer kid. We watched ATOC the same night and she really liked it. So now she has seen the full story and her main complaint is that Carrie Fisher is ugly & She didnt understand the Count Dooku situation. She kept asking about him and his motives. Why he wasnt in ep1? Why he left the Jedi? I didnt really have an answer for those.
