    I finally have Netflix again, and now that the entire series is on there I decided I'd give it a try. I know an official timeline of chronology was released for all the episodes, but would it be a good idea to watch them all in that order for my first time through them, or would you recommend just watching them in release order?

    Watch them in release order, watching them in chronological order can be a pain in the ass

    Look up the chronological order, it's out there, and worth watching in chronological order.

    Chrono order. With release order you are jumping around too much those first couple seasons. Seasons 1 and 2 have prequels to the movie, Series 3 has lead up to episodes in the first season and so on and so forth. It gets better season 4 on with like only one episode being moved in season 5.

    Thanks. Not sure how things are set up on Netflix. By season and you have to click on the season you want to watch right? Just get the Chrono order and follow that. Shouldn't take much effort. Season 3 also has two clone prequels set early in the war. There is also lead up episodes in season 3 to Ambush in season 1. Chrono order is better in this case.

    Thanks everyone. I don't understand why they didn't just release them in the right order in the first place though...

    Various reasons. For instance in Season 5 one of the Maul episodes was moved up to the season premiere, even though it takes place later in the season to generate more hype.

    So I have given myself the project of creating an all-new order in which to watch The Clone Wars for some friends, students' parents, acquaintances, and other people who I am always hyping the show up to. The idea is to create not just an ultra-simplified but still chronological order, but also to have symbols and a key that would tell the viewer whether they should definitely watch the episode, consider skipping it if the title doesn't sound interesting because it's mediocre, or probably skip it because it's one of the series' worst.

    Obviously that's pretty subjective, so I am interested in how people might approach this task differently, or if anyone has any specific comments on my list. I only add a comment in parentheses for episodes that aren't given the "definitely watch" rating. Here it is:

    Episode ###: first digit = season #, last two digits = episode ## within that season

    * = definitely watch
    + = probably only watch if topic sounds interesting to you, mediocre episode
    X = probably shouldn't watch, series low

    space in between episodes = you sometimes have to skip around from season to season or episodes within a season to stay in chronological order (otherwise you'll hit a bunch of random prequels and sequels to earlier episodes that were not released in chronological order as you go along for a big chunk of the series)
    no spaces in between episodes = no skipping around required to stay in chronological order

    Note: there is an "official" episode order that is different mostly in that it jumps around a lot more than it needs to, this order is intended to let you jump around as little as possible while still keeping all the prequel and sequel episodes that were not released in chronological order arranged correctly

    Looking at my list again, I considered changing The Gathering and A Test of Strength to + since those were really the only ones I felt borderline about, but either way I realized having 80 something definite watches and 40 something optional watches is still cutting out 1/3 of the series which is quite a lot. It's not cutting 1/2 of the series which is where I expected to be, but when you're talking about over 120 episodes cutting out 1/3 could still have a huge impact in keeping watchers who need to see the best stuff only to stay interested away from episodes like Corruption and others, so they're always watching either good or great episodes. I feel like doing this will help the show match all the carefully qualified hype I give it.

    I'm probably gonna start giving this out to people soon, but again if anyone has any opinions on any of my rankings or my overall system here I would really like to hear them.

    thejeditraitor yeah I would recommend anyone who wanted to to check out every episode, my list is for people who aren't sure about watching to make sure they get a good enough impression of the series to stick with it. (In lieu of just giving someone a handful of episodes/arcs to check out.)

    I was trying to make it clear that I agree with that. I just don't want people who aren't sure about the series getting bogged down by Bombad Jedi before they get to Overlords and all the many other mind-blowing episodes of the series.

    Well that's why I put in short descriptions of the episodes that aren't ranked definite watch so people can still watch it if it sounds interesting enough to them and they are leaning towards watching more episodes rather than fewer.

    Okay just reading that hurt my brain a little. I think most adults interested in Force lore who aren't Jar Jar fans would disagree. To each their own, though.

    I stand by my description for people who aren't sure about checking out the series that they probably shouldn't watch Bombad Jedi unless they think they'll be interested in lots of Jar Jar and C-3PO antics. Do you think that's inaccurate? That's the purpose of putting that description there so if someone thinks that sounds good and they wanna check it out they can instead of just blindly following my recommendations.

    I think Jar Jar found his rightful place in a fully animated show. His episodes actually made me laugh in some spots. Wasn't bad at all. He fits an animated show perfectly. It's like watching an old Tex Avery cartoon character in spots.
