Great work, NautilusD! I got a ride in a B-17 a few years ago; it's bigger on the outside than the inside. If you ever get the urge to do a C-130, let me know, I spent 20 years on the Herkypig.

You have no chance of getting a license as that will have already been granted to someone else. You do have exceptional skills however and would suggest that you start sending examples of your work to anyone and everyone who may be interested as well as getting yourself a website. I'm very critical of some of the fan produced material that I see here and on other SF forums (as quite frankly most of it is awful) but your hobby could easily reap rewards professionally.

Thanks, I do already do this professionally, I've been in graphic design for over 10 years now, done several magazine covers, major ad campaigns, etc. I'd love to get this artwork attached to an upcoming game or promotional tie in, licensing is too expensive to do it on my own. It's all good, I sell other artwork too...

I half suspected that, that's why I italicized 'hobby'. The problem with cutaways is that I believe there will be a canonised version that will then be used as a reference for detailing models, toys, etc. It's all about singing from the same hymn sheet and although your version looks technically very good it's not the definitive version and will therefore never be licensed.

Great work with the T-70, I love the cross-section books but have always been disappointed that they never did the 2-seater Y-Wing from RotJ. Could you do one of those?

That said, one of the better fan artists (Ansel Hsiao AKA "Fractalsponge"), did get their work "canonised" (prior to the Legends announcement) in The Essential Guide to Warfare.

Maybe, if they do an "Incredible Cross Sections: Episode VII" you could manage to get hired to work on it, with the right contacts and submissions?

I'm wondering if the T-70 would be like the equivalent of The US's F-16 fighting Falcon.

If it is would that make the A-Wing equivalent of the Harrier Jump Jet? Then I wouldn't mind seeing what could be the equivalent of the F-22 Raptor or F-35 Lightning?

The A-Wing's style is more "super-fast" than "super-manoeuvrable".

I'd say they're both small, have a limited arsenal but make up for it with another enviable ability. In science fiction being "super fast" in space could be the equivalent of being "super manoeuvrable" in a 'real' gravitational atmosphere.

In modern air combat the majority of kills are beyond visual range and after your missiles are depleted you only have a few seconds worth of gun ammunition. Quite frankly dogfighting is a thing of the past and that's why GL used second world war footage as reference (and placeholders) for ANH.

We get a sneak peek at the black-and-orange X-wing (presumed to be Poe's) from a Lego commercial, of all things:

To those before comparing the A-Wing to a Harrier, the A-Wing is an Interceptor, just like it's tie counterpart, that means it has high speed and maneuverability to do it's task, intercept fighters and bombers (and escort said bombers). But it's relatively ill-equipped for long dog-fights, where you'd use a fighter craft (X-Wing) which simply has more armament and shielding to survive said dogfights (Tie's out-number you 3-1, so you want to make sure you have the power and shielding to do that.)

The best comparison with "modern" aircraft would the the F-14 Tomcat as an Interceptor (though it's main role (see the F designation) was a fighter) for the navy and the F-15/F-16 for night/day interception roles. currently only the F-22 is equipped to do this task.

Also nice to see that the LEGO commercial again confirms that BB-8 is an astromech droid and fits in the new T-70s
