kinda confused on my taxes. I figured I would be getting a teeny tiny return since I had 4 months tax-free pay (and tax-free combat/hazard pay on top of that), but I guess for some reason all the extra pay goes under soc sec wages instead of regular wages or something, so my wages for last year were only like 9,000, and I guess I have to pay less taxes on that so I will actually get a decent return? I dunno, maybe I don't understand how mum was explaining it, but she's really good w/ taxes and stuff, so I guess she'll figure it out. So long as I get money back, I'll be a happy camper.

In my opinion no person who is active duty/disabled vet should have to pay a darn thing from their military wages to the IRS.I can see filing a reurn to get money back but if they owe anything i think it should be null and void.

I hear you, I_B. It makes no sense to pay taxes if you are getting paid from taxes as a member of the armed services.

That being said, with my military pay and how some of the 'extra pay' being untaxable, I only cleared about $24K in taxable income last year. With all of my deductions and business write-offs, not to mention 3 little deductions running around the house, we're getting back about $4200!!!

I wish I could say that all of that is play money and woohoo and all that, but it's spoken for already. It will get me on a plane back down to Phoenix and let me bring back all of my stuff that's in storage, and it will give us down payment money on a place (apt, home, whatever), and help pay off some of the bills that we're falling behind on.

I am extremely excited about this though, it's the first true ray of light that I've had in a while. :) (financially, that is)
