Hi, this is my first post to the Costumes board, and I am currently making a Dark Jedi costume, similar to Anakin's in AOTC/ROTS. Upon starting my costume, I read many places that 'Indian Homespun' is the closest thing, if not THE fabric used in the movies. My wife and I were at Wal-Mart last night, and I stumbled across this fabric! It was labeled "Homespun Solid", and it was made in India. The best part, is it was $2.04 per yard! The one I bought was a light tan color, but when I asked the lady at the desk, she said that it comes in many other colors, but all they had was green and tan. I have pictures of the fabric, along with the small amount of Osnaburg I got for my undertunic. I also have a scan of the fabric receipt, so that people can have this ordered. The clerk at my Wal-Mart said that if a store doesn't have it, then it can be ordered. Just trying to help out some fellow costumers, so my apologies if this has already been posted.

^The one on the left is Osnaburg, and the right is the Homespun.^

Hope I was some help to those looking for this material!

    Robbie

EDIT: Both fabrics are 100% cotton, and the clerk said they would dye well.

Looks to me like ordinary 'unbleached cotton'. I use it in my jedi costumes all the time, it's very cheap and looks really good. It comes in all sorts of colors and some types are more stiff than other. You can also get it in a lot of different weights. I always use the very heavy fabric.

    Well, hope this helps,

    Leonie

Calico? The kind they used for Painting Canvas or Mock-Ups?

This fabric isn't the same as unbleached cotton. In essence, it IS 'unbleached cotton', but the texture is different.

    looks rather ruff...

If thats what everyones been finding at wal mart then im not too excited ...not that i dont appreciate the post, i have to say you are the man Robbie!!!

Ive been tring to get the product number for that fabric for awhile.

But if you look on the padawansguide there are close up pics of the fabric and it looks really soft and looks like it would be very kashmerish, i dont know the word but it dosent look that scratchy.

ill have to go to wal mart and order some to see it for myself!

    Thanx Robbie

This fabric isn't scratchy at all.. It actually surprised me at how soft it is. Granted, it's not silk or anything, but it's not burlap, either. I'll dye mine the dark brown I'm going with sometime this week and post pics on how it turns out.

No, I don't think it's calico, I always buy it on the market. It looks really good, check out my jedi costume on www.starwarscostumes.tk it's made from unbleached cotton.
