I didn't see any other thread for this in the index.

Inkheart is the 1st of a children's fantasy trilogy by German author, Cornelia Funke.

Inkspell (Inkblood in Germany) is the 2nd. Inkdawn is the working title of the 3rd and last book, not yet released.

Inkheart is currently being made into a movie.

I made this for general discussion.

Didn't she also write "The Thief Lord"?

Yes...and that's been made into a movie already.

She also wrote Dragonrider...which is for much younger kids, I think. Haven't read it.

Ooh...the language Thief Lord filmed in was foreign. At least I think so. Italian or German, I have no idea. I live in Canada and I don't believe the movie ever ran in theatres here. (or anywhere, it might have been straight to video/DVD)

You can prolly buy it somewhere with subtitles, though.

I live in Canada, too, which is why I haven't seen it, I suppose. I did read the book, which I rather liked.

What did you think of the first book in this trilogy? And what is it about?

Oh, it was amazing (Inkheart). Much better than the Thief Lord...it has the potential to make a great movie. It sort of has that quality, too...as I read it, I thought, "This would make a good movie."

...if you ever plan to read it, I don't want to spoil it for you. It's about books - or stories rather. Kind of.

Got it. (You can edit your original post, Makhno, for up to 30 minutes...rather than posting again.)

Well, okay, I shall be blunt: don't do it again, it's against the rules. [face_skull]

You don't want me to exercise unrelenting violence, right? [face_thinking]

Inkspell, the 2nd book, is also available. The 3rd book is still being written, I believe.

I see that the upcoming movie is cast as follows:

Brendan Fraser as Silvertongue; Andy Serkis as Capricorn; and Paul Bettany as Dustfinger.

Okay, I tried the book; and my conclusion was very similar to my conclusion about "The Thief Lord"; great idea, not so great execution. I don't know if it's the translation, of course, but the book plonks along slowly, and the main character is bland. But the bookaholic theme was great.

Saw a trailer for this; it looked rather intriguing. But I admit that I didn't much like the book.

And...it did very poorly indeed at the box office; almost the only major film to do so last weekend. Fraser has no luck at all.
