Calgary Inter-fanforce event: Edmontooine & Tosche Station BBQ

When we were in Calgary last weekend the idea was brought up of having a BBQ somewhere around Red Deer/Sylvan lake which is a great idea as it's a reasonable drive for both sides and it would give us all a chance to meet up.

So who would be interested in this and if so what date works best for you?

Hopefully we can have enough advance warning so we'll have a great turn out.

 

This would be a really fun day, I think! Sylvan Lake is great (Aspen Beach provincial park on Gull lake, about 10 minutes away from there is my personal favorite "beach" destination here in Alberta), and if not there, then there are a few great parks right in Red Deer that come to mind...

• Bower Ponds - paddle boats, canoes, gazebos


• Rotary Park - a HUGE playground for younglings and lots of shade, plus trails by the river


• Kin Canyon - right in town, just off Gaetz ave

In all honesty, I think this is a fabulous idea, but I wouldn't really be able to commit to it unless we pushed it out to sometime mid-late August.

 

oooohh paddle boats, actually that might not be such a good idea, i can see people getting pushed in the water

 

I'd guarantee that you'd be one of them

So what days are we looking at for this BBQ?

 

How does the weekend of the 18th-19th of June look to everyone?

 

We've actually got a BBQ planned that weekend here in Calgary for the Fan Force and 501 to meet-up.

Like I said; I think pushing it to later in the summer might be a better idea.

 

is july good for you guys or august better, august long weekend is out cause were camping, the 13 and 27th of august is no good for me or july 9th and july 2nd is westerncon, any other date is fine i think

 

Just remember, the 19th of June is Father's Day anyways...

 

The weekend of July 16 is good for me. It's after the chaos of Westercon and before my trip to La$ Vega$

I'm not entirely sure if I can leave town that weekend...

I work for the Calgary Stampede, and that's the last weekend of the fair. As far as I understand, my department works every day that week.

Veritate and I will be in Vegas for my Birthday that weekend. I'm turning the big 30.

It's looking like August.

August 20 in Red Deer sounds good to me. What about the 501?

 

Hmmm...

This has kind of fallen to the backburner recently, and, in light of the Comic and Toy Fair (which happens that day) being a 501st/Jedi Costuming event (see this thread), I'm thinking this will have to be re-scheduled.

I'll post to the Edmontooine board, too, if I can find that thread on their board.
